Farmers in Hama & Homs are leading their own recovery 🌱 @UKforSyria & @FAO visited climate-smart farming, restored irrigation to 7 500 ha lands & Farmer Field Schools transforming food production. With UK aid, 1.2M+ #Syrians are becoming self-reliant producers.

🌾 In Hama, Syria, recovery is growing from the ground up. Through @FAOSyria and UK-supported Farmer Field Schools, fruit growers, olive farmers, and livestock keepers are boosting production and rebuilding their livelihoods following 14 years of conflict. 🍈 Olive yields up by 25% 🥛 Milk production up 10–15% 💰 Household incomes rising by 20% But the real impact goes beyond the numbers. One widowed farmer - once isolated and struggling - found renewed purpose through her Farmer Field Schools community. The support gave her the confidence to return to her olive grove with pride. Today, she’s not only producing more olives, but is also part of a network of local “farm experts” leading their own recovery and strengthening their small businesses. From farmers to farm experts  In Homs, olive and livestock farmers supported through #FFS boost food production and income through climate-smart and sustainable practices supported by @UKforSyria and @FAO under the BLRS project.

BLRS project impacts in #Hama #Syria Uk-funded irrigation rehabilitation work brought water back to 7,500 hectares after nearly 20 years. Voices from women and men water users confirmed that the impact and change is life changing.

Today, we launch the Regional Consultative Technical Meeting as part of the preparations for the 38th FAO Regional Conference for the Near East, supporting evidence-based policy dialogue on the future of agrifood systems in the region. #NERC38

The training comes as part of the implementation of Phase II activities of the Joint Programme on Urban and Rural Resilience and Recovery Conditions in #Syria, supported by Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, and Norway.

This program will contribute to strengthening community empowerment concepts and local rural governance, helping rural communities lead their own development and recovery processes.

.@FAO, within #UNJP, has concluded training sessions for local committees on rural community planning in 20 villages in #Aleppo. The initiative aims to engage the local community in leading the process of identifying needs & priorities to improve their living conditions.

.@FAO #Syria has organized a workshop on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), attended by the Minister of #Agriculture, Amjad Badr. The workshop aimed to introduce the #IPC and provide examples of its use by the government and humanitarian partners.
