🚨 New research from the #WiscWeeds lab! We confirmed the first Wisconsin case of #waterhemp resistance to PPO-inhibiting herbicides (Group 14) applied preemergence. 👉 Waterhemp accession A92 from Dodge County, WI showed reduced sensitivity to sulfentrazone and fomesafen applied preemergence and to fomesafen and lactofen applied postemergence. 👉 Resistance was not linked to any known target-site PPX1 or PPX2 mutations, pointing to likely non-target site mechanisms (e.g., cytochrome P450s or GSTs). Important @WISoyCheckoff funded work led by Dr. Felipe Faleco (@FFaleco, former #WiscWeeds PhD student), in partnership with Dr. Pat Tranel’s Molecular Weed Science lab at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign @IllinoisCropSci. 📄 @FFaleco et al. 2025. Uhaul to the rescue! @AhmadrezaMobli & @FFaleco transporting #waterhemp plants to a field location to be treated with dicamba as part of our @WISoyCheckoff herbicide resistance monitoring efforts. Plants are treated outside to mitigate vapor drift concerns within our greenhouses.
