Today I$rael tried to kill me in a targeted airstrike in southern Lebanon as I was reporting on was the targeting of bridges and the forced displacement of 1 million people, an ethnic cleansing operation on a larger scale than the Nakba I have absolutely no doubt that this was deliberate. Despite claims there were no warnings ahead of the strike and no notifications sent to the Lebanese Army who allowed us to film As we have seen in Gaza they want to silence journalists who document and report their war crimes It is the western powers who provide political and military support for I$rael, arming it to the teeth to carry out genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing here in Lebanon. They are not simply complicit, but active participants and should be held accountable for their actions. But if I$rael thinks today’s strike will silence us and keep us out of the field they are very, very mistaken

The massacre of the girls elementary school pupils (ages 8 to12) in Iran, now stands at one hundred and eighty five. Any person attempting to justify this unprovoked obscenity is a psychopath.

There are moments when silence is not an option. This is one of them. @SusanSarandon joins UNRWA to remind the world that, amid the devastation in #Gaza, UNRWA continues its work: keeping clinics open, sustaining shelters, and delivering emergency aid and education to thousands of families. It is the largest humanitarian organisation in Gaza, and no other agency can replace what it does. Supporting UNRWA means standing for human lives, human rights, and our shared humanity. Together, we are UNRWA. Donate now at: donate.unrwa.org/help

This is who our government should be supporting !Lebone is a 22 year old South African running a coffee business from her grandfather’s home in Alex Despite the bad reputation so many people give it, to me Alex is a township alive with some of the best entrepreneurs in this country, who desperately need, and frankly deserve help Lomonde is running a brilliant coffee business, making milkshakes and waffle burgers. Creating a space for young people to gather that doesn’t involve alcohol, something in short supply in this area How do we build a country where people like her can get the attention they deserve?

Israel bombs Lebanon on Mondays and Thursdays. Israel bombs Syria on Wednesdays. Israel bombs Palestine the rest of the week. Only Israel can bomb 3 countries and still be perceived as the victim.

In a world of giant horror I have been so saddened by a small, local thing. Madam Zingara is hosting a Keren Hayesod fundraiser in Cape Town tonight. A Zionist organisation, raising funds for the Zionist state and directly funding the IOF. Right here in CT.

This analysis nails it. The Musk situation exposes something critical about South African political culture that many foreign actors fundamentally misunderstand: we don’t respond to American-style racial grievance politics because our context is entirely different. Musk assumed he could deploy the same playbook that works in the U.S.—claim victimhood, invoke race, mobilise his base, pressure regulators through public sentiment. But South Africa operates on different logic. We’ve seen actual racial oppression. We know what systemic discrimination looks like. A billionaire being asked to follow regulatory compliance procedures is not it. The Bezos comparison is devastating because it proves the point entirely. Same race, same nationality, same industry, zero controversy. Why? Because Bezos isn’t running a public grievance campaign or treating regulatory bodies like obstacles to be bullied through social media mobs. He’s engaging properly, which is what any serious business operator does. What Musk failed to grasp is that South Africans across all racial groups are deeply skeptical of victimhood narratives from the powerful. We watched our own elites—across the political spectrum—weaponise grievance politics for personal gain. We’re immune to it now. You can’t be the richest person on Earth and simultaneously claim persecution because a regulator asked you to complete paperwork. The MAGA playbook doesn’t translate here because our political reality is fundamentally different. American conservatives can mobilise white grievance because their context supports it. In South Africa, where transformation and redress remain live political questions, a white billionaire claiming oppression doesn’t generate sympathy—it generates eye rolls. Whoever advised Musk that a social media tantrum would substitute for regulatory compliance fundamentally misread South African politics. ICASA doesn’t answer to Twitter mobs. They answer to legislative frameworks. You don’t bypass compliance through outrage; you comply or you don’t operate. It’s that simple. The real tragedy here is that Starlink could have entered the South African market, created jobs, improved connectivity, and been celebrated. Instead, Musk chose to treat our regulatory environment like it’s beneath him, our requirements like inconveniences, and our officials like they need to be publicly shamed into submission. That arrogance just cost him the market. And honestly? Good. If you can’t respect South African sovereignty enough to follow basic regulatory procedures, we don’t need your service. There are other providers who will.
