Look at the notable improvements in student test scores since the adoption and normalization of testing in Florida. Tests force teachers to teach well and stay focused in their curriculum, and obviously, it pays off.

@NoTestFL Standardized testing might demand a lot of time within the school day, but portfolios require a larger time investment by the teacher. Given that teachers would have to assess each individual student, evaluations would drag on, giving teachers less time to prepare lessons.

Standardized achievement testing offers an opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge, and higher scores are often correlated with higher success rates. In the realm of statewide testing, students also have the opportunity to explicitly prove their mastery. #TimeToTest

Students who earn a score of 2 or higher on #APExams are more likely to have higher #college grades in those subject areas than similar students who don’t take AP Exams. Follow this link for more information about the benefits of AP: spr.ly/6010EOqIQ

@NoTestFL Uniqueness is a value among students, but by measuring student proficiency within the average context, students who need individualized help can be identified. With a criterion-based system, if the minimums are too low, there is no direct incentive for student improvement.

@FLAccountable Comparison to other students is not a necessary marker of progress or proficiency. With strong standards, criterion-based forms of evaluation, like portfolio assessments give students the opportunity to demonstrate their unique skills and talents.

Alternative forms of assessment may seem enticing, but they don't offer a straightforward method of comparison. Testing works because it allows for a universal minimum level of competency to graduate. How can colleges ensure that students are prepared with respect to their peers?

As noted by Polikoff in his 2017 article in Educational Leadership, National Association of Educational Progress test scores showed an increase in reading/math from 1996-2011. Testing has a noticeable and beneficial impact. Accountability leads to success. #KeepStudentsStrong.

While all of these qualities are commendable in students and should be fostered, they are not relevant to the ultimate point of accountability: ensuring that students leave school with the core education standards necessary to succeed.

With #FSA #testing starting this week, I thought I should remind everyone of a few of things about #kids that standardized testing doesn't measure. My #students are more than a test. #teaching #teachers #education

@NoTestFL Just because an adult who graduated from the public school system decades ago is not familiar with standards does not mean that tests are flawed. Standards change. Roach may not need some of the core math skills for his work, but that does not make them irrelevant to students.

@NoTestFL Standardized testing may take time to administer, but the long-term benefits are many. Using alternative assessments to measure students requires substantial investments of time by students and teachers outside of class. Standardized tests are grades easily and objectively. #Test

Did You Know? According to an internal investigation by the FLDOE, students spend 10-13 hours taking state exams each year! That time could have gone to extracurricular enrichment or expansions on class content. Instead, it's spent sitting in an isolated room. #PoorTimeManagement

With reductions in federal oversight due to Obama's passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act in 2015, common sense forms of standardized testing are vulnerable to removal. Help defend the traditional and effective form of accountability Florida has been using for years!
