If your home uses a private well, keeping your water safe starts with you 💧🏡. Unlike public water systems, private wells aren’t routinely monitored, so regular testing is key to protecting your health. The Florida Department of Health recommends testing your well water at least once a year for bacteria and nitrates, the most common contaminants found in groundwater. These can affect water quality without any change in taste, smell, or appearance—so testing is the only way to know for sure. Routine testing is simple and can make a big difference in keeping your household safe. Your local health department can help with easy-to-follow instructions—and in some cases, even assist with collecting samples. Learn more about testing your private well at FloridaHealth.gov/Private-Wells #PrivateWells #WaterSafety #HealthyFlorida

Exercises like this bring agencies together, test real-world capabilities & reinforce the partnerships that drive a unified response. 🤝 Prepared together. Ready for anything.

Naloxone is a safe, life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose when given in time. Knowing the signs of an overdose — and how to respond — can save a life. Common signs of an opioid overdose include: ⚠️ Not responding to voice or touch ⚠️ Blue or gray lips or fingernails ⚠️ Slow, shallow, or no breathing ⚠️ Very small (pinpoint) pupils ⚠️ Pale, cold, or clammy skin ⚠️ Gurgling, gasping, or snoring sounds If you suspect an overdose, call 911 immediately and administer naloxone if available. Find free naloxone access in your community ➡️ isavefl.com/find-naloxone #OverdosePrevention #Naloxone

Today is Diabetes Alert Day, a one-day “wake-up call” that focuses on the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of knowing your risk. It’s estimated that 98 million American adults have prediabetes, but 9 out of 10 people don’t know they have it. You can have prediabetes for years without clear symptoms. It often goes undetected until serious health issues arise. Talk to your health care provider about getting your blood sugar tested and know the risk factors for prediabetes, including: *️⃣ Being overweight *️⃣ Age 45 or older *️⃣ Having a close family member with type 2 diabetes *️⃣ Not being physically active The Florida Department of Health offers diabetes prevention programs across the state to support you in lowering your risk. Find a program near you at FloridaHealth.gov/DiabetesPreven… #DiabetesAlertDay #PrediabetesAwareness

Every parent wants their baby to sleep safely and peacefully. Practicing the 𝐀𝐁𝐂’s of safe sleep can help protect your little one and bring you added peace of mind. 🤍 Sleep-related deaths remain one of the leading causes of death for infants between 1 month and 1 year of age. The heartbreaking reality is that about 3,500 infants in the U.S. die suddenly and unexpectedly each year from sleep-related causes, including SIDS and suffocation. Following safe sleep guidelines, for every nap and every night, can significantly reduce risk and help create a safer sleep environment for your baby. Learn your ABC's at FloridaHealth.gov/SafeSleep #NationalSleepDay #SafeSleep #ABCsleep

Regular digestive health screening, usually beginning at age 45, can save lives. Colorectal cancer often grows silently, but routine screening can detect and remove abnormalities early and to prevent the transition into cancer. Eating more fiber, fruits and vegetables, and whole foods can also play a major role in cancer prevention and improve overall health. Talk to your health care provider about the right screening for you. 🔗 flcancerconnect.com/cancer_types/c… #ColorectalCancer #CancerAwareness

Healthy habits start at home. When children see their parents and caregivers prioritizing oral health, they're more likely to build those habits in their own lives. Cavities, gum disease, and other oral health conditions are largely preventable with daily brushing and flossing, healthy nutrition, and routine dental visits. Your local health department offers dental health information and community resources. Learn more about available programs and oral health services by visiting FloridaHealth.gov 🔗 floridahealth.gov/individual-fam… #OralHealthDay #HealthyHabits

A simple fall can have life-changing consequences, especially for older adults. Falls are one of the leading causes of traumatic brain injuries, and in 2024, they ranked #1 for injuries resulting in emergency department visits and hospitalizations in Florida. When someone falls, the impact can cause a serious head injury that affects memory, mobility, and independence. The good news? Many falls are preventable. Reduce your risk by removing trip hazards at home, installing and using handrails, improving lighting, and staying physically active to maintain strength and balance. If a traumatic brain or spinal cord injury does occur, the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program supports eligible residents with services that help them regain independence and return to an appropriate level of functioning in their communities.
