Apparently there is a new tick disease going around that make people completely allergic to any mammalian product (meat, dairy.. ect) I spoke to a local ecologist about it and he said that the number of tick species in our area have gone from 3 to 9 within the past 5 years

Funnily enough in the east chickens were much more cheaper, since the pig tabu didn't really allow them to have that protein source:
1 cruzado = 400 réis
13 liters of rice = 5 cruzados
"jar" of sagu = 25,30 cruzados
1 goat = 20 cruzados
1 pig = 50 cruzados
1 chicken = 4 cruzados

It depends. At least in the case of Iberia chicken was considered more of a health type of food and you wouldn't really have it every month. You bought it if someone in your family was sick and needed to recover alongside other things like honey and good olive oil.
