After covering 10/11 Live Matches in 2 weeks in KZN, from the DDC, NFD, PSL, CAF Confed, creating a database of talent from ugly colourful live match notes to dotting down stand-out players each game covered to creating a shadow team which I’ll still be filter down as per specific needs, profiles, comparisons etc. at a later stage to finalise my own final report on top talents of these covered matches. This excludes matches covered on TV but only kept it on live matches because my goal is to ensure I’ve covered 100% all the teams from DDC, NFD & PSL, to have a full comprehensive report on talents. When doing player scouting without any specific game model and profile it’s even more complex but I find it interesting as this becomes more interesting when there’s clear context of game model and specific profile, etc. There’s many interesting scouting processes, with others having a full focus on data only or traditional technical scouting methods while my philosophy is simple; try to balance data and live technical scouting as there’s so many key variables in recruitment which data can’t quantify and furthermore, I want to also pay attention to key aspects like tactical roles, general organisation forms, the tactical analyst in me always want to see these elements naturally 😅 My mentor gave a very interesting perspective in technical scouting, so objective: “Technical quality is no longer rare.
