Stay True Sounds Turns 10!
I can’t believe it’s been a decade since I started @StayTrueSounds, Born out of passion, persistence, and a constant love for music, this journey began after my time at Soul Candi Records, with a clear vision: create a platform for South African producers who made music from their soul.
We have achieved so much over the past 10 years, Stay True Sounds has:
✔️ Released 200 + projects from now household names like Fka Mash, Dwson, China Charmeleon, beatsbyhand, Nutty Nys and boundary-pushers like Atmos Blaq, El Payo, Thabo Tonick and many more.
✔️ I couldn’t resist opening a non-house sister label STY TRU BTS giving talents like Sio, EMAMKAY and more a home to release their creations.
✔️ Hosting stages at international festivals Defected Croatia and Malta and holding down a stage at the annual Spring Fiesta bash in Johannesburg and events across SA.
✔️ Partnering with Ballantine’s to showcase our discoveries every month on the Stay True Sounds Stream on our ever growing YouTube channel.
✔️ Articles in worldwide media about us as a label and the music we release.
✔️ We now have international artists inspired by our SA music scene releasing music on the label like Crackazat and Andre Lodemann.
2025 is set to be HUGE as we celebrate:
- Kicking off with a new logo by French illustrator Ashes 57 which came from the capsule collab we recently did with ShelfLife.
- Albums from Charles Webster & a handful of SA artists + a full album from Sio teaming up with UK’s very own T. Williams plus our usual annual Stay True compilation and a handful of singles and EP’s from artist like Thakzin, Pando G, Crackazat and more…
- A massive release to kick it all off: Jullian Gomes’ reinterpretation of Blackwhole’s “1000 Seconds” (out 7 Feb).
Stay True Sounds isn’t just a label; it’s a home for discovery and culture always pushing the South African agenda.
Thank you to everyone who’s supported us along the way - here’s to the next 10 years! 🙏🏻

Happy Women’s Day!
South Africa commemorates Women’s Month in August as a tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women. The Government of South Africa declared August women’s month and the 9th of August is celebrated annually as Women’s Day.
When I found out about these celebrations years ago, it inspired me to celebrate women in music on Deeper Shades Of House and concentrate on female DJs this month (besides the other regular female DJ features throughout the year).
The first female DJ to be featured during Women’s Month this year is regular DSOH guest CHERRY DEEP (this is her fifth appearance on the show) on today’s episode 871 which is now available to stream and download at deepershades.net/871
The first hour of this show is one hour of the live recording of my DJ gig at Makin’ Moves in London last year.
Happy Women’s Day!
