Back To | FSACCI Holds Annual General Meeting - FY 2025 The French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, 21 May 2026. The meeting took place simultaneously in Johannesburg at Fasken's offices in Inanda Greens Business Park and in Cape Town. Our Cape Town team met for the AGM at the offices of The INVNT GROUP — the group behind the launch of the Ladurée South Africa franchise in South Africa — and later had Dinner at the Ladurée South Africa Restaurant. A quorum was reached ahead of the meeting’s start, with 58 members participating, including proxies. Erwanne MEILHOC, FSACCI General Manager, opened the proceedings and welcomed members in good standing who attended in person or via proxy. Dr. Yves GUENON, FSACCI Chairperson, presented the 2025 Annual Report and reviewed key activities and milestones from the past financial year. Two FSACCI board members, Thulisile Phiri and Francois de Thomasson, were successfully re-elected, reinforcing the Chamber’s continued commitment to good governance and stability. VISA UPDATE | EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY CONCESSION FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS RELATED TO DELAYED PROCESSING OF WAIVER, VISA AND APPEAL APPLICATIONS. Angelika Yakovchuk, Partner and Head of the Immigration Department at Schröder Attorneys, Inc., notes that the extension of the Concession is welcomed, providing some relief, and that the Department’s acknowledgement of processing delays will be well received by both businesses and applicants. Yakovchuk further indicates that the Concessions read the extension until 30 June 2027, representing a further 15-month term. “Historically, concessions have been granted and/or extended for three to six months; a 15-month extension is therefore atypical and unexpected. To confirm the intended reading of the extension date and avoid ambiguity, we have engaged the Minister’s Office for clarification on whether the extension is meant to expire on 30 June 2026 or 30 June 2027”, says Angelika Yakovchuk. We will communicate the outcome of this inquiry as soon as it is available.

Analyses | Crypto tax risks – voluntary disclosure window closing Thousands of South Africans who have traded or invested in crypto assets may soon face severe penalties. The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has started issuing letters to individuals suspected of undeclared crypto gains. Experts warn that those who fail to act now risk not only hefty fines but also potential criminal prosecution. The window for crypto investors and traders to voluntarily regularise their tax affairs is rapidly closing. SARS is strengthening its enforcement capabilities. The Voluntary Disclosure Programme (VDP) presents a final opportunity to get tax affairs in order and report any undeclared crypto gains.
