Key insights from the session: - Humans are a system that has never been properly patched, leaving countless opportunities for criminals with ample resources and time to perfect their craft. - For years we’ve called users “the weakest link,” but the reality is far more complex. - Many security failures stem not from carelessness, but from systems misaligned with real human behavior. - Cybercrime today is not a lone hacker in a hoodie—it’s organized, professional, and far more accessible thanks to AI. - The key to protection lies in understanding the psychological tactics used in cybercrime to better prepare end users. - Default opt-ins enable dangerous, silent data collection, putting users’ privacy at unprecedented risk. - Dark and deceptive designs exploit psychological biases to keep users engaged far longer than intended. For the 40% of waking hours (about 16 hours a day) spent on screens, roughly 25 minutes of every hour are screen time—this is bad. - Every second these interfaces hijack our attention is a second we cannot spend noticing real security threats.

We conducted an in-depth analysis of AI-driven scams in 2025, revealing four distinct ways the technology is leveraged for fraud. In 89% of AI-enhanced scams, AI generated content—mostly to enhance phishing emails or impersonate people via voice cloning and deepfake videos.
