I knew there were a lot of fake accounts on this platform, but they are usually obvious. I had no idea how intricate and complex the ruse could be. Get a load of this story. 1/

I heard whispers that there'll be an opt-out option for authors... BUT this is not functional when none of us know about it because publicity has been so poor @routledgebooks @tandfonline. If we opt out it seems like they will have a problem based on the reaction to my Tweet 7/

I spoke to my source and they sent me this press release from the parent company Informa, detailing that T&F data will be used to train Microsoft AIs. For this they receive an initial payment of $10m+ plus additional yearly fees 6/ informa.com/globalassets/d…

This is disturbing and an increasingly important issue for academics. ALCS (who collect authors' fees, a great service - do sign up) is currently conducting a survey on this.

Just found out that Taylor & Francis has sold access to all @routledgebooks data to Microsoft to train their AI. This includes my publications. I get no payment for using my research labour, never mind the bigger problems of this energy-intensive extractivism...

My colleague Anna Hellings from @bbsr_bund makes clear: There is not a lack of instruments to achieve no net land take, there is a lack of the implementation of existing instruments @ESPON_Programme

In celebration of the life, work and legacy of Professor Patsy Healey OBE FBA 1940-2024. A remarkable academic, a true inspiration, and wonderful human being. Her work will inspire the planning community for many years to come. Here’s a photo from Glasgow in September 2023
