Fannie Jones, 85, of Augusta, GA was pampered by her master, and cried when they had to leave after the slaves were freedom. She also tells a bit about her husband's experience. #BlackHistory

English

Estella Jones of Augusta, GA gives a detailed recollection of slavery. In a rarity, she remembers the overseer as being more kind than the master. Their overseer would help conceal "illegal" slave barbecues. #BlackHistory

English

Susie Johnson, 77, of Griffin, GA says her old masters were good to their slaves, but did control them. They didn't use the whip much, or else their slaves wouldn't have wanted to stay with them when they were freed. #BlackHistory

@not_coolidge @FWPSlvNarrative @DoctorCopper @CountryBoy_62 @ModernCSA @SamDown93 There is no cherry picking, it's just a report of what the ex-slaves said. There are 0 reasons for me to think you know more about slavery than they did, but that's what you want us to do
English

Mr. Johnson expresses his longing for the good old days, and tells how much better they were than present times. #BlackHistory

English

Manuel Johnson, 74, of Washington-Wilkes, GA remembered slaves being sold. Though he was too young to remember much about slavery himself, he well knew the judge who owned his family. #BlackHistory
Any offensive language is Mr. Johnson's own.

English

@not_coolidge @DoctorCopper @CountryBoy_62 @ModernCSA @SamDown93 Hey bud, since you're so sure of yourself you can earn a cool $100 if you prove we're cherry picking! And by the way, these people weren't slaves "all their lives." These interviews were conducted in the 1930s, 70 years after slavery ended.

English

@FWPSlvNarrative @DoctorCopper @CountryBoy_62 @ModernCSA @SamDown93 You’re a cherry picking propagandist. Eat shit

If I went on holiday to Spain, you can be sure I’d have celebrated Palmer’s goal in the euros final. Absurd thing to have a problem with.

@not_coolidge @DoctorCopper @CountryBoy_62 @ModernCSA @SamDown93 I believe it is an insult to these former slaves to accuse them of having "Stockholm syndrome." Follow this account, read all of the narratives, get a comprehensive picture. You will find everything, good, bad, and ugly. Don't try to force people into your paradigm
English

@DoctorCopper @CountryBoy_62 @ModernCSA @SamDown93 @FWPSlvNarrative It’s wild that you guys are gonna take some testimony from a handful of slaves with Stockholm syndrome after being slaves their entire lives and pretend that was the norm, while calling me dimwitted lmao
English

Mr. Johnson followed his master to the war. His own lot was easy, though he saw lots of fighting, and had to take his wounded master back home. Some slaves stayed after emancipation, others got away as quickly as they could. #BlackHistory

English

Benjamin Johnson tells about how he escaped a whipping from one of the patrollers. Conditions of slavery were far from easy; whippings were rare, but severe when administered. #BlackHistory

English
