Hey #medtwitter I need your help! I really need volunteers for my MMEd project to complete it. If you are a surgeon ST3+ who has 'adapted' to go on with a surgical career, please tell me how. The condition is not relevant- "Tis the Journey that counts"! #ILookLikeASurgeon

@MissBethanEJohn What you wrote struck a chord. After tough times, I remember mourning & pining for things to go back and be the person I used to be. It took time to realise that she's always going to be part of me, I was simply growing & transitioning - the spark came back - and so will yours x

@EmergMedDr So I've just been to Spicy Basil (my favourite Thai spot) and got asked with much disdain why I was wearing a mask as Covid is all over now. I remember this tweet from yesterday and used your line... the desperate need to disengage from further chatter was amazing to watch!

@_just_a_GP That consultant is living in the dark ages. LTFT and flexible working is not at all selfish, it is the new norm. You probably do more and do it better than your FT counterparts. Change is coming! Like it or not...

Good morning to everyone except the consultant who told me that working Less-Than-Full-Time is selfish and unfair on everyone else 🙄

@MissBethanEJohn Maybe a locum shift to help either refresh a historical perspective or to review things afresh and give you some renewed energy and validation of the path you are on x

This is the first “first Wednesday in August” where I haven’t been progressing, rotating or going to a new team. The first year where I haven’t been a trainee or a doctor for changeover. It feels weird… and it’s not a good weird. Still no regrets (mostly) but god I miss it

@bone00afide This came up in my feed. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm married to an identical twin, and they really can't be without each other. I can't imagine what you must be going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I’m the guy who usually understands things effortlessly. My twin brother died tonight and suddenly I don’t think I understand anything. This isn’t supposed to be.

Passed FRCS ✅ 🥂 I don’t think any doctor can adequately verbalise the emotions they feel after passing their final exam, after a whole lifetime of exams.

@noodles_nood Gosh this is rubbish. @TheBMA provide employment advisors who can help fight your corner. Agree that you should see OH who can set out recommendations like reduced hours, modified duty, supernumery etc. Trusts get the gitters when a union is involved. Sending you a virtual *hug*

Every single time I tell a stranger that I'm training to be a surgeon, they ask me whether many surgeons are women. It reminds me how important #WomenInSTEM is. #ILookLikeASurgeon

@beckybeckyfish Responses I get usually come as the following: 1. What!? You're a doctor? No way! 2. Really? So you actually do operations, like blood and everything!? .... erm yes 3. That's just like my son/daughter... they r a pharmacist!.... errr me thinks not I am a SURGEON Almost.... 😅

@WhyamIhereb Sorry that you're having to face prejudice crap from those who chose to stay ignorant around you. I went to the head theatre nurse, confirmed it's in uniform policy (knew it was), and any crappy comments I then referred the person to her so they could feel a bit silly instead.
