Police have arrested a young man, Abdullah Al Mamun, in Pirganj Upazila of Thakurgaon on allegations of posting ‘derogatory’ posts about top BNP leaders on Facebook. A satirical cartoon photo shared in January and recent ‘offensive’ posts against Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed led to his arrest. "Police said Mamun posted satirical cartoons and offensive pictures of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, LGRD Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Prime Minister's Advisor Mirza Abbas, and Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru from his personal Facebook ID." Later, when the matter came to the attention of Nahid Parvin Ripa, joint convener of Pirganj Upazila Women's Party, she filed a complaint with the police station. Based on the complaint, the police conducted a drive and arrested Mamun.

A 30-year-old Muslim woman in Kolkata was allegedly set on fire after rejecting a marriage proposal from a man named Siddhartha Chariwa, citing religious differences. As the police complaint reads, the accused, identified as Siddhartha Chariwal, allegedly lured the woman to the secluded spot under the pretext of an interview or a meeting. Once there, a heated argument broke out between the two, culminating in the accused pouring kerosene on the woman and setting her ablaze. Passersby and police personnel from the Maidan Police Station jurisdiction rushed the victim to the hospital, where she remained in critical condition until her death. The victim’s mother revealed that her daughter had left home for a job interview but stopped answering her phone shortly after reaching the location. She was later informed by a police officer that her daughter had been found severely burnt near Babughat. The mother further mentioned that in her final moments, the victim identified Chariwal as her attacker. She explained that the accused had previously pressured her daughter into marriage and offered her employment, both of which the victim had declined, citing religious differences and personal reasons.
