Sex differentiation in humans begins in the womb. Every embryo starts from the same basic developmental template. Around six weeks gestation genetic and hormonal pathways begin shaping sex characteristics including the brain. That is biology not ideology. Science has shown for years that sex development is not as simple as “fully male” or “fully female” in every case. Chromosomes hormones receptors brain development and anatomy do not always align perfectly. That is why intersex conditions exist and why major medical organisations recognise gender dysphoria as a real phenomenon. Transgender adults do not suddenly appear at 18 out of nowhere. They were once transgender children. Many report awareness of their gender identity from very early childhood long before politics or social theory entered their lives. Nobody is claiming every gender nonconforming child is trans. What people are saying is that some children consistently experience a profound and medically recognised incongruence between their assigned sex and their gender identity. That experience has been documented across cultures and throughout history. So saying “transgender children do not exist” is not a scientific statement. It is a political one. @hashjenni They either suffered, or self medicated with things like alcohol and drugs, which people still do today. A lot of people suffered to the point of death. That's why we have medications today, to try to prevent that suffering and possible death.

Oddly the only time "neurodivergents" mention their divergence it's to excuse: 1: shitty behavoir patterns OR 2: to excuse why they can't... can't cope, can't deliver... just can't... I think they need to kindly start considering how useless the excuses are and put in the work to fix themselves

@KMCarlsonAuthor @scrletpoison @Be_like_legend TBF it definitely used to be a descriptor, and a lot of us "older" folk were given that diagnosis as children and so we still use it for ourselves. It's more tone, body language, and context that can tell you if someone is using it as a joke or not.

"Disorder" doesn't necessarily mean "bad", it just means "not the regular order". And yes, I have multiple types of synesthesia (+ several other things on this list)

That list mixes very different things. Neurodivergence usually refers to neurodevelopmental conditions like autism or ADHD. Down syndrome and Prader-Willi are genetic syndromes, synesthesia isn’t a disorder, and OCD is a psychiatric condition often debated in this category. “Asperger’s syndrome” is no longer used, it was merged into Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the term is controversial due to Hans Asperger’s Nazi-era work classifying children as “useful” vs “non-useful.” Let’s keep up being kind to each other. ✌🏼

I hate how ADHD has been sensationalized as the fun mental illness but having it literally feels like walking around with some very specific kind of dementia that is actively ruining your life at every step and the culprit is always you.

@TheatreSpoonie Trump has deliberately hamstrung the CDC so that in another few years the Republicans can point at it and go "look, it's terrible and inefficient and needs to be demolished completely", just like they've done with things like the DoE, USPS, and social services.
