A German-born man of Turkish descent (45) has been arrested after a mass shooting at a mother-and-child refuge in Stade, Lower Saxony, Germany, that left six people dead and two injured.
The suspect, driving a tuned Mercedes-AMG, was chased by police along the B73 and stopped with shots fired.
The suspect is a 45-year-old man of Turkish descent who was born in Germany. A custody dispute may have served as the alleged perpetrator's motive.
At the time of the incident, his three-year-old daughter was at the facility with her mother.
Neither the child nor the woman is among the victims, Kathrin Schuol of the Lüneburg police department stated at a press conference on Monday evening.
The weapon used in the crime was seized by the police. The suspect resides near Hanover. He was known to the police, though not previously recorded as violent. He did not have a permit to carry a weapon; it is not known how he obtained it.

Fire Breaks Out at Mosque on Talbot Street in Dublin City Centre
Emergency services responded to a fire at a mosque on Talbot Street in central Dublin this afternoon.
Dublin Fire Brigade units attended the scene, where smoke was reported emanating from the building.
Parts of Talbot Street were cordoned off as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control. Videos circulating on social media showed emergency vehicles at the location and visible smoke in the area. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and Gardaí have not yet issued an official statement on whether the incident is being treated as suspicious. Investigations are ongoing.
Talbot Street is home to at least one established mosque serving the local Muslim community, including facilities linked to groups such as DawateIslami Ireland. The area is a busy part of Dublin’s north inner city, close to Connolly Station.
