Meet Kev, our Senior Administrator at Garden House Residential Children's Home 🌟 How long have you worked at Garden House? 🗓️ I started working at Garden House in November 2020 - I then took on a different role within Fair Ways, but returned as an administrator in October 2024. What makes you proud of your work? 💜 When the children feel comfortable to come and talk to me and confide in me, this makes me feel proud that I have been able to build those relationships with them. What’s one thing you hope the children learn from you? 🌟 I hope they learn how to be accepting of others and realise that their differences are their superpowers.

Special Guest Judge Alert! ✨🐾 Well… this is unexpected! It looks like Samba, the missing capybara from Marwell Zoo, has made a surprise appearance at our Fair Ways Bake Off Final, which is starting at 4pm! 🍰👀 She’s taken her judging duties very seriously and is ready to sample lots of delicious cakes made by the talented children across our services. We can confirm she has excellent taste and a particular interest in anything chocolatey… 🍫 Disclaimer: This post is part of a light-hearted local trend. No capybaras were harmed in the making of this post. We hope Samba is found safe and sound and returned to Marwell Zoo very soon. 💜

Fair Ways operates a number of Supported Living homes across the South, offering a safe and welcoming environment for young people. 🏡💜 Our homes are family-style settings, typically accommodating between two and four residents, ensuring a supportive and personalised approach. A wonderful thing happened last week at GLADE School in Totton... 💫 Two members of staff from the local Co-Op rang the doorbell to deliver a hamper of goodies for Fair Ways team members, and a box of gardening things for the students as a way of giving back to the community. A huge thank you to the Co-Op for this lovely gesture 💜

What an incredible evening we had last night at the CMA Recruitment Quiz Night! It was a real privilege for Fair Ways to be part of such a special event, with 38 teams and over 240 people coming together in support of our work. The atmosphere in the room was nothing short of inspiring. During the evening, we shared just how remarkable the Portsmouth business community truly is. We’re seeing that spirit in action right now through our Fostering Friendly Initiative, where organisations across the city have come together with a shared purpose – making Portsmouth the first city in the UK to become fostering friendly. That collective commitment to children and young people is something to be incredibly proud of. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated prizes, bought raffle tickets, stocked up on sweets, and brought such fantastic energy throughout the night – you made it unforgettable! Congratulations to Portsmouth City Council for taking home the coveted first-place trophy 🏆 Events like this remind us just how powerful community can be 💜

We’re pleased to have recently donated a selection of toys to Connors Toy Library, a fantastic Portsmouth-based charity supporting local families 🧸 Connors Toy Library provides community toy library sessions, giving children access to a wide range of toys whilst supporting families who may be facing challenging circumstances. We’re proud to play a small part in helping these toys reach the children who will benefit from them most. Thank you to Connors Toy Library for the incredible work you do in our community. 💜

I value the relationships I build, the trust that grows over time, and the moments when I can offer support, stability, and encouragement. Seeing young people make progress, recognise their strengths, and feel proud of themselves is incredibly rewarding. Being part of their journey and helping them feel safe, understood and cared for. What inspired you to work in residential care? 🏡 Caring for children has always been my true passion. For over 42 years, my career has been centred around supporting young people, helping them feel safe, valued, and understood. Joining Garden House has enabled me to contribute my experience, compassion, and enthusiasm to a setting that shares the same goals. We know that every young person learns differently. By creating inclusive spaces and personalised support, we help students build confidence, develop their strengths and continue their educational journeys. 💜

Today we’re celebrating all the incredible mother figures who make a difference. 💜 Mums don’t always have to be biological. They can be foster carers, step-mums, grandmothers, aunts, mentors or the many people who step forward with love, guidance and support when it’s needed most.
