If we flip Michigan there's really no way we lose the Senate.
Election Time@ElectionTime_

🚨BREAKING: Republicans' odds to flipping the Michigan US Senate seat JUMP OVERNIGHT. Michigan - 2026 US Senate 🟥Mike Rogers 44.3% (+3.7) 🟦Abdul El-Sayed 40.6% Polling average via Pollsmax.com. Abdul El-Sayed has become the Democratic frontrunner, and compared to his primary opponents—Mallory McMorrow and Haley Stevens—he performs by far the worst against Mike Rogers. If El-Sayed ends up being the nominee, Republicans will be the heavy favorites to flip Michigan's US Senate seat later this year.

it's the stranglehold of our cumbersome US system of government that presidential elections are just every four years. other countries can challenge & change governments as soon as the people lose confidence in the leader. doubt that millions of Americans necessarily want T***p dead; they are just waiting for him to no longer be president. (& few of these millions would commit any act of violence in any case.)
Brian@BrianCoey

@JoyceCarolOates Wishing death on our President should not be normalized. You wack job.

@JoyceCarolOates I liked your story about feral cats, but introducing the knife so early made it too obvious what would happen.

ⁿᵉʷˢ Barron Trump 🇺🇸
🚨 JUST NOW. Trump doubles down, calling the War Powers Act unconstitutional and arguing Congress stepping in would weaken U.S. negotiating leverage. That’s a direct challenge. Executive authority vs Congress. This battle is heating up fast.

@JoyceCarolOates Canada's GDP per capita has gone from ahead of the USA's to only 2/3 of it. I'm happy to be a laughingstock when I'm rich.

& other Americans hated the Irish immigrants; & Britain treated the Irish unforgivably. What’s your point? Everyone hates everyone? if so, give up.

@JoyceCarolOates When you were a girl, Joyce, did you ever read a book called Studs Lonigan by James T. Farrell? Some painful truths about the deep hatred Irish immigrants felt for the Blacks!

I am not a sociologist so could be mistaken but it has seemed that since (approximately) 2017 there has been a steady drumbeat of repudiating higher education (especially Ivy League), "elitism" (experts in fields), research science (of the kind that exposes industrial pollution in the US); a campaign to undermine literacy (of the kind that might encourage Americans to read, think, question). by now there must be two Americas, asymmetrical & very different: the one, comprised of exceptionally smart, hard-working, industrious young people enrolled in STEM courses & the like, who may be the children & grandchildren of recent immigrants; the other, less engaged with education, not so much defined by a work-ethnic; disinclined to take difficult courses, or indeed disinclined to go to college; more skilled at video games than at reading & math. with so much budget cuts in education, it is likely that these two Americas will grow farther apart over time.

@123itsmeMary This is not even ten percent of the reason kids are not reading lmao. There aren't even that many going into STEM courses. Literacy has been falling out of fashion for almost a century, then mobile tech accelerated it.

I just despise the language the left uses to excuse it's anti-social behavior. There is no such thing as a "rent strike." You're just a deadbeat who doesn't want to pay what you owe according to the contract you signed. kbzk.com/news/local-new…

sorry to hear this. soon, many will not even remember that the Washington Post was once a great newspaper. there was even a much-admired literary supplement, Book World. indeed, a fabled/legendary newspaper, now diminished & (seemingly) on the way to its demise for political reasons.
Louisa Loveluck@leloveluck

Termination day. A lay-off is a funny thing. 10 years of your life and then someone just cuts the bungee cord, without a thank you, goodbye, or even a chance to bid farewell to the constellation of colleagues who inhabited your world all that time. I’m grateful for all the opportunities the Washington Post gave me, and for the friends I made along the way. Onwards.
