Hey #dendro folk. For anybody still on this platform, please circulate the announcement for the openDendro bootcamp which will be held early January in Tucson. opendendro.org/bootcamp/

For the past two years I’ve been part of the openDendro project with @thirstygecko and @tswetnam among others. openDendro is an open-source framework for the essential analytic software used in dendrochronology.

@FakeAndyBunn Did you look at ClimateNA (climatena.ca)? The gui is annoying but you can pull the software and get to the underlying gridded climate normal fields and convert them to NetCDF. Let me know if you need details.
English

@numberwright Yeah. That was what I was worried about. I do want NA. And was hoping not to download each year. Thx!
English

@FakeAndyBunn tl;dr CONUS=easy; NA=hard. PRISM and gridMET only cover CONUS but PRISM provides normals. Worldclim covers all of NA (global) but I think you’d need to calculate the normals. Same for NARR and I think climateNA.

*New Paper Alert! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
The implications of our study necessitate a re-assessment of seismic risk in the Puget Sound of Washington. The 🌲s give us a warning of potential earthquake scenarios for the heavily populated region.

Like these but for the last climate normal and not the annual grids: daac.ornl.gov/cgi-bin/dsview…

Attending the bootcamp and getting involved with the project will help share the load in terms of development and maintenance of dendro tools and avoid the "some random person in Nebraska" problem! xkcd.com/2347/

@geophysichick I’m rooting for that plucky underdog from Facebook. Same handle over there.
