LONG(ish) WARNING: personal note: all my family & friends in Tehran are safe. I spoke to one of them after a pause of almost 2.5 days. They can talk in small windows - but messages/emails all down 1) They all live far from any state offices and described their life as “normal” except for the internet outage. Food, fuel and electricity are just fine. BUT 2) the Basij apparently shot anyone they found celebrating Khamenei’s death openly 3) all my family had received SMS saying they better behave or they will be shot at the slightest provocation 4) the word in Tehran is that because Trump said “stay in your homes for the next 4/5 days and I’ll tell you when to come out” - there are people waiting to come out to start rioting/protesting when Trump says so 5) Law and order is operating very effectively for now. But security is much higher - armed basiji are on every street corner
