Sometimes I make a typo: "Unicide" instead of "Unicode" and it reminds me of @FakeUnicode

@dazabani @ServoDev @FakeUnicode Lol, right, so not even VS15, VS16 also doesn't do anything here. And what seems like "1 + vs16" gets in fact converted to 1 + combining enclosing keycap (U+20E3): 1⃣ = 31-20e3.svg: abs-0.twimg.com/emoji/v2/svg/3…

@uwukko @luciascarlet I’m so sick of @FakeUnicode putting characters literally everywhere, forcing it, every show. literally why

@lorenschmidt @frozenpandaman @FakeUnicode I did some research about how browsers obey variation selectors and forced fonts and summarised them around here: (tl;dr: yes, inconsistent even for glyphs that are told to be "monochromatizable" by Unicode standard.)

myf (formerly myf)@myfonj
@anatudor Tangentially related: in theory some (/ most (/ even ALL(?))) COLRv* Emoji characters may / should / must (?) have a monochrome variant. I'm not sure whether there is some standard or authority dictating this, but certainly there is a mechanism for that. github.com/w3c/csswg-draf…

@anaxium You could try the confusables utility, eg:
util.unicode.org/UnicodeJsps/co…
English

@FakeUnicode OK thanks. I will try to do some more research and see if I can come across these unique characters. I want to be able to prove they exist, or did at some point. But right now I have nothing to go off of...
English

@FakeUnicode why do ⻏ and 阝 have unique styles? I remember a while ago there used to be other basic kana in the former style but have since been removed or something?
English

@anaxium ⻏ is in:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJK_Radic…
[115 code points]
阝is in:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJK_Unifi…
[20,992 code points]
English

@anaxium You can look at old versions on unicode.org, eg:
unicode.org/versions/Unico…
unicode.org/versions/Unico…
unicode.org/versions/Unico…
But really, Unicode never renames, removes, or moves anything: unicode.org/policies/stabi…
(Only non-fundamental changes are allowed, like updated glyphs, etc)

@xah_lee @SUPER7X_ @sigfig What is more confusing is why there are two of them

⋛ U+22DB 8923 GREATER-THAN EQUAL TO OR LESS-THAN

@FakeUnicode @Sikthehedgehog in mathematical spaces where comparison isn't complete, yes. The (1,0) pair is not greater or lower than (0,1).
English

@SUPER7X_ @sigfig lol. i dunno neither. ⪋ if one look at unicode proposal, maybe there's answer. @FakeUnicode
