I’m seeing a lot of people being like “if you don’t like this you’re being selfish”, and I unfortunately have to disagree with those people.
Becoming affiliate is basically that first step a creator takes to prove they’re serious about becoming a streamer. You unlock monetization and ways to interact with your community. Now they’re giving all of these features to non-affiliates.
They’ve made it even easier to reach affiliate than it used to be. I reached affiliate back when you needed to get 50 followers, and now they knocked it down to 25. I even remember when the payout threshold was $100 rather than the $50 it is now.
The only difference between non-affiliates and affiliates now is affiliates get an actual payout to use outside of Twitch. Even then, brand new affiliates may not even see payouts right away if they aren’t being supported enough. This means there’s really nothing new and exciting anymore for people that become affiliate, and for some it may just take that desire to become an affiliate away immediately.
Becoming an affiliate doesn’t really feel like that much of an accomplishment anymore.
For those of you that are happy about this change, I’m happy for you! I really hope you enjoy all of those new features you have access to.
For those of you that are unhappy with this, I see you as well. Take this as inspiration to push for partner so you can celebrate an even greater achievement than affiliate was. 🩵
