The arrest of Franco Mabanta for alleged extortion is quite suspicious and surprising. He used to work for BBM as a social media strategist/consultant. Not sure what happened to that gig, but after BBM’s 2022 win, he simply "disappeared". A rumor emerged that he started PGMN, a supposed “neutral” social media outlet. But when you read some of their posts, they launder Duterte-leaning narratives under the guise of neutrality. The play here seems to have been an attempt to leverage old connections (from the BBM days) to fund a new agenda (PGMN), while potentially using extortion to bridge the financial gap. Now that Mabanta is arrested, expect the PGMN ecosystem and allied vloggers to frame this as political persecution. Expect them to spin this criminal extortion charge into a "freedom of speech" or "political vendetta" narrative, which is a classic defensive PR play. 🙄 Or maybe he’s part of a movie being played out to unsuspecting audience to serve a bigger purpose? We’ll see.
