Take me on a picnic, lakeside without interruptions. You bring the lunch, and I'll be the snack.

@NewBookGuyAdam any happiness or angst you wish to share, without pressure."

@NewBookGuyAdam yourself short." Lifting my free hand, I took a long drink to finish off my glass.
"Consider me a safe space. I am not a therapist, but I have certainly met my fair share of them. Let me be a person you can confide in, and open up to at your own pace. I offer myself to>

"Give this mean a follow and a read. Nothing like a tragic backstory to reel us in."
Adam Hampshire@NewBookGuyAdam
Solo - We Have All the Time in the World March 3rd - 2021 - The Cotswolds After what had been a year like no other. Masks, lockdowns, endless zoom quizzes with friends and family Katy and I had finally got the chance to escape to the country and have a much needed break. --

@NewBookGuyAdam "Your therapist is likely right." I turned my hand palm up so that my fingers could intertwine with his. I squeezed, but then over the corner of my eye, I saw a canvas picture, large and unavoidable, on the wall.
"That is her? She's stunning. I can see why you fell for her..."
English

@FancyNotClassy Taking her hand and giving it a gentle squeeze, he looked to her with a glassy eyed half smile and cleared his throat before speaking quietly.
"Thank you. I'm trying to open up more. My therapist told me that I've been closed off for too long and it's not healthy."
English

@NewBookGuyAdam The words were said almost dismissively, as if he struggled to say them so they simply flew out to not think of them.
His marriage undoubtedly was not like mine.
"There are no words." I said as my hand reached to cover his empty one. "I am truly sorry, Adam."
English

@FancyNotClassy I nod as I listen before taking a sip of my own drink and bracing myself.
"My last relationship was with my wife, Katy. She was my first love. We were together for years and married for two before... Before she died."
I look into my glass at the liquid sloshing around. Silent.
English

@OnBrokenWing "Four years? What was your degree?" The economy was difficult, I thought to myself. Perhaps that was why he chose to be a bartender instead of using his education. Not that I looked down on the work. He seemed capable of doing whatever he chose.
Very capable.

@FancyNotClassy ' I got out of college a few years ago... Probably going on 4 years now?"
He says with a wry smile. When it's a busy Friday night, drunk women complimenting him isn't as powerful as a sober woman doing the same. They fall over alright, and usually spill their drinks all over.
English

@LittleHatFrog "Thankfully. I need a little rest after this week."
English

@NewBookGuyAdam "Ooooh, diving right into the deep ones I see. I mentioned before that I'm a widow. He was my last relationship. We weren't married for long before he became ill..."
Without a tear in my eye, I took a sip and looked to him. "Your turn. When was yours?"
English

@FancyNotClassy He smiled softly at her words, not quite sure if it was a joke or if she truly was keeping a dark secret close to her chest. Something he would dig a little for.
"Well... First things first. When was your last relationship and how long was it?"
English

@NewBookGuyAdam "When in doubt, watch The Godfather."
English

@OnBrokenWing "How long have you been practicing?" I questioned mildly, swirling the drink in hand, eying it and then him. The blush was a surprise, but cute. I expected he'd get complimented constantly. Handsome man behind the bar, women must be falling over their feet for him.
English

@FancyNotClassy " The right rationing comes with time and practice. I'm glad you like it."
He's smiling at her compliment, blushing even. Usually It's too busy to ever get complimented.
English

@NewBookGuyAdam I shifted my body to turn towards him, glass in hand. "Why, yes, I think we should. You go first. What would you like to know about me, Mr. Hampshire. I promise to answer as honestly as the law will allow. But we all have our secrets." The smile on my face hinted at a joke.
English

@FancyNotClassy "I think that's a perfect toast and I couldn't think of a better thing to celebrate.
So now here we are, I think we should perhaps get to know one another a bit better?"
He suggested as he smiled at her and made himself comfortable on the sofa just beside her.
English

@OnBrokenWing "That is rather cheesy, but I can appreciate a good pick up line." Grins and sips my gin elegantly. "People call me Penelope. Pleasure meeting you, Gabe. I particular approve of your ration of gin to tonic."
English

@FancyNotClassy " I'm Gabe... And you? What do people call you, other than pretty?"
He chuckled as he set leaned back against the bar. Allowing himself to relax a bit. This was a slow night shift after all.
English

@OnBrokenWing "Some call me lucky," I said with a sly grin, reaching for the glass once it was offered. "What do people call you?"
English

@FancyNotClassy " You're in luck. Beefeater and Tonic."
He smirked as she noticed that he had at least some level of competence and skill. It's only a few more minutes before her drink is set in front of her.
English

@OnBrokenWing "Mm, Beefeater if you have it." Noticing the treatment of the napkin made me smirk. "A bartender who has some skill. Rare and refreshing."
English

@FancyNotClassy " Gin and tonic indeed. Any preference on Gin?"
He asks as he smiles and sets down a black beverage napkin and salts the napkin so it isn't lifted when the glass is lifted.
