What I hate most about Bridgerton is what they've done to Colin. They've relegated him to a character with no substance, barely good enough to be a good husband and father, when he's so much more than that. Yes, we love the sensitive, emotionally connected Colin. The brave man who caused at least twenty scandals on his way to Penelope just to keep from losing her. We love Colin the pirate and the adventurer. We love his essence as a lover, and on that we all agree. However, Bridgerton, Shonda, or Jess—because I honestly don't know who was really responsible—have done nothing but disrespect Colin's character time and time again. In the books, Colin is actually the only one of the eight siblings who appears in almost every book of the series, except for Hyacinth's. And it's not that Colin is a character who's just there and does nothing. On the contrary, he's almost always been the link or the impetus his siblings have needed, whether directly or indirectly, to achieve their happiness. He was always an intelligent man and very perceptive of everyone around him. He wasn't a fool or someone who was oblivious to things. But after seeing what they did to him in season 4, how his entire arc as a writer was practically scrapped, how the famous conversation he had with Benedict in the book about him going after Sophie was nonexistent, and how now the role he had Francesca´s book is going to be replaced by Benedict just because the latter is bisexual, I have to say it: Either this show has a problem with Colin or its writers and showrunner really don't know how to do decent character development. Regardless of the case, Colin will continue to be beloved by his fans, but no one can say that he hasn't been treated unfairly since Jess took over as showrunner. His character has so much more potential, and it's disappointing that they don't know how to use it properly. In the end, we fanfiction writers are the only ones who can do justice to our favorite characters because it's clear that these writers lack imagination, good ideas, and are, frankly, completely useless.

@LadyKateMorgan Que triste.

they were going to hug here, she stretched out her hands to hug him, he was looking at her like she was the last meal on earth and he had gone without food for decades, just ridiculous. no platonic explanation pfft.

LITERALLY the only explanation for the hate toward show Colin and Phillip is they don’t fit the classic clichés male leads that the audience seems to like. sweet and sensitive men are simply boring to all of you, when those are actually qualities that should be appreciated.

I agree. Generally speaking, women seem to enjoy male protagonists who bring drama and conflict to the relationship. The enemies-to-lovers trope is very popular precisely because it evokes in readers the drama of the protagonists' fight before they succumb to passion. A passion that is often quite chaotic but captivating in its intensity. But when a protagonist is well-balanced and can have a "healthy" love relationship with their romantic interest, they're automatically perceived as boring because, again, there's no conflict, drama, or intensity. There's more sweetness, more care; the emotional connection is what matters, and that's captivating, especially for sensitive women or those who prioritize emotional connection over drama. The point is, just because there's an emotional connection doesn't mean there can't be passion. There is, and Colin and Penelope are proof of that, because in the carriage Colin let himself go and showed Penelope no mercy as he showed her what pleasure felt like under his touch. And as a sensitive person, I felt it all because I connected with them on a deep emotional level. That's why I like these kinds of protagonists, because I know that even if there isn't much drama or major conflict, it's that emotional depth and total passion that draws me to them.
