It's been a genuine shame to see Fantasy Top fall apart. It was the only app I've logged on to daily on chain and it had so much potential to grow beyond CT, while still in our little niche being the most fun I've had in crypto. There were early elements of strategy, prediction markets, and social media betting that have become in many ways the meta of our current market. While I hesitate to call it a slow rug due to the gratitude I still have to the team for giving me one of my first shots working in the space, the way the treasury and runway for the Core game have been handled gives all the appearance of impropriety. Investors like @OttoSuwen, who in addition to being an angel has boot strapped much of the liquidity of the game, paint a grim picture of how funds have been stewarded, not to mention a consistent lack of regard for player input. There were so many opportunities to iterate on game and tournament design, respond to feedback constructively, and broaden the game into larger, non-CT demographics. Instead, time and effort was wasted on too many pivots with too little follow-through-- Tactics, Clout, F2P, and more. Though I'm chastened now having worked on bringing a product to market with Kuru and knowing how difficult engineering tasks are, there were constant bugs and issues with the UI/UX of the experience of Fantasy that persisted for a year+, all while being flagged multiple times to the devs and never being fixed. The truly sad thing is there still should be a warchest, there still should be good will of the player base, and the thesis of a more competitive, lucrative X monetization layer based on engagement prediction is still as valid as ever. Fantasy Top was one of the best shots on goal we've see n for what uniquely crypto gaming could look like, both as a successful niche and a proof of concept that could have grown far beyond the four walls of our space. I still have engrained in my brain before posting a would-be banger, "is it during Fantasy competition time? I need to try to perform for my holders." Fantasy was a blessing to me for the fun, financially, and friends I made along the way, but it's been months now since I stepped away due to concerns at how the game's future and funds were being managed and the ever-increasing depreciation in values of cards in the market. I take many lessons from this into my current role, and hope someone will take up the mantle of building on the vision of what Fantasy could have been. If you do, hit me up.
