He had been imprisoned by Israel — without charge and without a trial — for a year, during which time he lost half his body weight. He is one of 105 Palestinian journalists who have been imprisoned by Israel since October 7, 2023 — most without charge, according to @pressfreedom.

Days after the Congress-DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu ended over Congress extending support to Vijay’s TVK to form the government in the state, DMK deputy general secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking a change in the seating arrangements of DMK MPs. In the communication dated May 7, 2026, the DMK said it was “not appropriate” for its MPs to continue sitting alongside Congress members in the House after the alliance split.
