Now would be a great time to authorize a Cold War Victory Medal to recognize our veterans whose military service contributed to the defeat of the Soviet Union. Make victory great again! Thank you for your attention to this matter! @realDonaldTrump @POTUS @PeteHegseth @SecWar

#RedHat putting #RHEL source behind a paywall could trigger the long awaited GPL legal test. If this stands, it could be the beginning of a trend away from truly open source.

@mogensb The media invented to support IML (Initial Microcode Load) during mainframe cold boot became floppy diskette technology in the IBM PC.

@mogensb As I recall, the IBM mainframes had loadable 'microcode' that determined the instruction set. You loaded a 'scientific' instruction set to run FORTRAN, else a 'business' instruction set.

@mogensb We did not actually use any high level languages like FORTRAN or COBOL. That required too much memory (core, main storage), which was very expensive. We only coded in assembly language well into the 1980s, because you could do so much more, with better performance.

@mogensb We spoke of FORTRAN and COBOL compilers, but also commonly referred to 'compiling' when we were actually assembling an assembly (assembler) program.

@mogensb I grew up around the IBM 1401 (and 704), and assembly language was routinely spoken of as 'autocoder'. Then on the IBM 360 autocoder usually meant emulation to run existing 1401 programs. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autocoder

Intel Q4 2022: PC chips down 36% as PC market shrank sharply. Intel should sign up to manufacture Raspberry Pi hardware. Ready market with no end in sight. #Raspberry_Pi #Intel #chipshortage

@JohnKennedyEsq In the early days, Turbo products were mostly designed by developers scratching their own itch, with a complete feature set, but no fluff. "Simple is the killer feature". So easily forgotten.

I now know that many, many, many people loved Borland Turbo Pascal (and C). What made it so great? Anything it can still teach us?

Think back to when you had a 286 or 386 based PC (the rest of you can get back to your avocado toast 😉 ) - what was your favorite development platform / tool / IDE?

According to you, which Linux distro is the most underrated? My vote goes to Alpine Linux and Puppy Linux. What about you?

@traversymedia Node architecture, internals. Trace JS from V8, to libuv, to system calls. Examine Node APIs. No Express, no long front-end demo projects, no TypeScript. Just the raw JS and Node technology layers and below. Go deep. #nodejs #libuv #javascript

I am re-building my entire Modern JS course from the ground up. I want to get more into how JS actually works (Engines, execution context, hoisting, call stack, etc). I think a lot of courses lack that stuff (Including my own). What else would you like to see in a JS course?

Auto makers should be authorized to manufacture the '66 Mustang and the '69 Camaro until the chip shortage is over. No chips required. Unprecedented sales. Full employment. #chipshortage #semiconductor #automotive
