I grew up around people who read and discussed what they were reading. In those discussions we often disagreed. Yet, there is no need to call names, impugn motives, and advocate for violence. Yesterday, I shared an an interview of Joseph Kabila in the New York Times. My NYT subscription allows me to give 10 articles away each month so friends and family can read them freely through the paywall. On X / Twitter my post got lots of traction. Many retweeted it. Many affirmed sharing articles. I recognize good people have a wide range of opinions on Joseph Kabila and contemporary politics in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It’s ok to have a wide range of perspectives on a situation as complicated as the DRC. Yet, as happens almost every time I share anything where Rwanda, Uganda, and DRC governance issues are discussed, the haters came out. Names were called. Motives were impugned. Violence was excused. Each time that happens convinces me that genocide ideology is still alive. That is inexcusable. A few Scriptures come to mind: Matthew 5:21-22. New International Version Murder 21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder,[a] and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister[b][c] will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’[d] is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Matthew 15:18-20. New International Version 18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.20 These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them James 3:5-12. New International Version 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. Friends and Family, We really do have a deep spiritual problem at the root of the violence in the eastern DRC. The vile comments confirm the depth of this depravity. God, have mercy

He drives a school bus in Dallas, Texas. But the kids on his route call him something else — Dad. Every morning before the sun is fully up, Curtis Jenkins pulls his yellow school bus to the curb and waits. Not just to pick up kids. To see them. For seven years, Curtis noticed things other people missed. The little girl who folded her paper lunch bag perfectly every day but left it on the bus — because there was nothing inside. The boy whose shoes were too small. The kids who got on quiet, eyes down, carrying weight no child should have to carry alone. So Curtis did something simple. He made his bus a community. He gave every child a job — a greeter, an assistant, a "police officer" keeping order in the aisles. Every morning he'd call out, "We're going to care about each other and love everybody, right?" And 50 small voices would answer back. But it didn't stop there. Over the years, Curtis spent thousands of dollars of his own money — money he saved by skipping his own Christmas gifts with his wife — on birthday cards, bikes, backpacks, turkeys at Thanksgiving, and 70 hand-wrapped Christmas presents. He didn't buy random gifts. He asked each child what they wanted. Then he went and got exactly that. No donation page. No announcement. No cameras. When the story finally got out and people questioned how a bus driver could afford it, Curtis just smiled. "It doesn't take money. It takes discipline." But here's the part that will stay with you. When a reporter asked the kids what they loved most about Curtis — not one of them mentioned the gifts. A fifth grader named Ethan, whose parents had divorced when he was four, looked up and said quietly: "He's the father that I always wanted. In some ways, I wish my dad could have been like that." Curtis heard it. Didn't flinch. Just nodded. "That's the paycheck right there," he said later. "If I can get that, you can keep the money." He wasn't looking for a medal. He wasn't going viral on purpose. He was just a man who decided, every single morning, that his bus would be the safest place those kids walked into all day. Sometimes the person who changes a child's life forever isn't a teacher or a coach or a counselor. Sometimes it's the person behind the wheel of a yellow bus at 7 a.m. — who chose to show up, and chose to care, when nobody was asking him to. Tag someone who needs to read this today. 💛

Sad news for DR Congo fans. 💔 The famous Congolese supporter Lumumba will not be in Mexico for the 2026 World Cup playoffs after failing to secure a visa. A big miss for the Leopards’ energy in the stands. 🇨🇩😔 #AfricanFootball #WorldCup

Tough one for DR Congo fans. 💔🇨🇩 Here’s what happened to Lumumba: He was in Kenya trying to secure a visa but didn’t get it, so he returned home to DR Congo yesterday. He was then advised to try again in Ethiopia, where someone has some influence to help fast-track the process. However, even with an expedited visa, it still takes at least a day to process and with travel time to Mexico ranging from 18 to 30 hours depending on connections, there’s simply no way he can make it in time for DR Congo vs Jamaica. Lumumba will now stay home and support the team from afar. Football passion knows no borders but sometimes, logistics win. 😔 #AfricanFootball #WorldCup #DRCongo

Mo Salah is the only world-class player I've ever heard : "Yeah he is world class, but..." There is no 'but'. Just look at his awards: 3x PFA Player of the Year 3x FWA Player of the Year 4x Premier League Golden Boot 2x PL Playmaker of the Season 2x African Player of the Year 7x PL Player of the Month 4x PL Team of the Season Many of these are records. So stop looking for faults and just celebrate one of the all-time greats. No more 'buts'. 👍
