Personally, I’m hoping it’s melted chocolate. First watch. Now watching 1976’s “AT THE EARTH’s CORE!”

Managed to score this piece of history at Bob's Hobbies & Collectibles in Springfield today. Most licensed tie-ins have the shelf life of a glass of milk, but ROM is the exception that proves the rule. Parker Brothers may have released the toy in 1979, but Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema gave it a soul. They took a blinking plastic robot and turned it into the tragic, silver-plated defender of the cosmos we see here. From the first appearance of the Dire Wraiths to his eventual integration into the broader Marvel Universe, ROM Spaceknight #1 is a masterclass in making a marketing gimmick feel like high-stakes space opera. The Intel The Mission: ROM lands on Earth to hunt down Dire Wraiths—shape-shifting aliens that have been infiltrating humanity for years. The Creators: Bill Mantlo (writer) and Sal Buscema (artist) are the architects of this 75-issue run that outlasted the actual toy line by years. Fun Fact: Because of licensing tangles, ROM was in "legal limbo" for decades, making these original Bronze Age issues essential for any serious cosmic collector. #MarvelComics #ROM #Spaceknight #BronzeAgeComics #ComicCollecting #SpringfieldMA #LocalComicShop #LCS #FirstAppearance #MarvelLegends #RetroGaming #Hasbro #BillMantlo #SalBuscema #Galador
