A new large wildfire is burning near Paris, France. The fire which is burning in the Fontainebleau forest is now at 400 hectares (988 acres) and has caused highway shutdowns near Paris. Two firefighting planes have been deployed to help fight the "very virulent" fire.

The Aspen Acres fire in Colorado has so far destroyed over 150 structures, remains at 0% containment, and has made another new run today due to strong winds. Mandatory evacuations have been issued for several areas, including the towns of Beulah and Rye, as well as the Wetmore area.

According to Reuters, France has recorded over 1,000 deaths following last week’s historic heatwave, with warnings that the figure is likely higher. Most of the deaths involved the elderly, with temperatures recording well over 40°C across the majority of the country Several other countries have also recorded new records during this ongoing heatwave, with Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Denmark, Slovakia, and others all breaking temperature records.
