I knew my dr probably didn’t want to run the test. And I knew to push back against that. Skin cancer runs in my family and I have a background in biology- I know when a spot isn’t just a spot. Self diagnosis is valid. Self diagnosis is useful.

I went to my dr for a nose scab I had for a YEAR- I was told not to worry. I insisted on a referral. The dermatologist didn’t even notice the spot until I circled it for them. Biopsy came back, positive for basal cell carcinoma. If I hadn’t insisted, they would’ve missed it.

I was told multiple times I didn’t have the “academic rigor”. I was only seriously considered as a grad applicant once I had ALREADY built my own lab and was doing my own research

Underrated skills in academia ▫️simplify complex topics ▫️prioritising finished over perfect ▫️being kind

Citizen science is just as valid as studies done solely by scientific professionals. It opens up avenues not only to increase the scope of research for scientists, but involves the community and increases community awareness!! All you need is a good training program

@lovedoveclarke For pants, avoiding seams that will cause cameltoe is huge for me. For shirts I’ve never found a “long line” or skin tight crop top that doesn’t immediately roll up and make camp under my tatas. Love a flowy crop and high waisted seamless pant 🫶🏼
