⌚4 years ago I joined the European Parliament. 🚀10X Solar Growth. Since then, the annual solar PV production on Parliament's buildings has gone from 48,865 kWh to 473,284. Going from 2 buildings with solar when I joined, up to 8 now, with 6 in the pipeline.

Provisional ERA5 global temperature for 17th November from @CopernicusECMWF was 1.17°C above 1991-2020 - the warmest on record. Our best estimate is that this was the first day when global temperature was more than 2°C above 1850-1900 (or pre-industrial) levels, at 2.06°C.

@Benj_Ray Had something similar a year ago; two fines, 1st for cycling through a red light and 2nd for not having an ID. I'm still sore about the 2nd one. likewise I showed bank cards and a photo of my passport but they still fined me.

Just got fined 150 euro by Belgian police for not carrying my ID card with me in the street... has anyone else been charged so much for this? As a Brit growing up in a country so averse to ID cards I had to take my passport clubbing, this seems rather over-strict...

@CColose If unsurprising, what's your estimate for the next El Niño? Over 2 degrees pre industrial before 2030?

We do understand it. It’s a rather exceptional El Niño following multiple La Niña years, superimposed on a trend that will continue. There is no evidence of “surprises,” which actually is worrying enough.
Prof. Stefan Rahmstorf 🌏 🦣@rahmstorf

We do understand the #globalwarming caused by fossil fuels - for four decades it’s been going as predicted. But we don’t understand the surprise upward leap that is happening now. And that worries me.

The first global temperature data is in for the full month of September. This month was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist – absolutely gobsmackingly bananas. JRA-55 beat the prior monthly record by over 0.5C, and was around 1.8C warmer than preindutrial levels.

Its hard to overstate just how exceptionally high global temperatures are at the moment. They have blown past anything we've previously experienced by a huge margin. Over at The Climate Brink, we try and visualize this summer of extremes in seven charts. theclimatebrink.com/p/visualizing-…

NEW RESEARCH: Study number 44 shows: Hydrogen should only play a limited & complimentary role to decarbonise heating. Whole-energy system optimisation model by @imperialcollege suggests 83-97% of UK heating from heat pumps is lowest cost pathway to zero emissions heating. 🧵

Perspective: Lithium we mine today and that we'll need to mine by 2050 compared to other major mined materials today like Iron, Aluminum, and Copper. Measured in kilotonnes. Great visual.
