@MarkSharon_DP @cycloxoxford @BigGive But again, I haven't mentioned anything of my own conclusions. You have a very 'us vs them' attitude that I find concerning and am on record as appealing against. I just had the audacity to point out that things could be safer at the Plain.

@FelceJames @cycloxoxford @BigGive I am actually not remotely comfortable leaping to any conclusions, which is my entire point. You seem to want to willfully distort everything I say if it doesn't align completely with your own conclusions. 100s of 1000s of people deserve more objectivity than you can provide.

Powerful words from James Felce. His wife Ling tragically died after being hit by a lorry driver at the Plain roundabout in Oxford. Listen to why he wants safe streets, and please donate to our @BigGive #ChristmasChallenge to stop road deaths ⤵️ tinyurl.com/CycloxBigGive

@MarkSharon_DP @cycloxoxford @BigGive You seemed comfortable enough leaping to the conclusion that the driver's fitness was the only factor, and suggesting cyclists enjoy discomfort while discussing a woman's violent death is trivialising to me.

@FelceJames @cycloxoxford @BigGive I do not have the context of the incident which is why I do not leap to a conclusion as so many anti-driving types are apt to do and I certainly don't trivialise it.

@PeterSrebot @cycloxoxford @BigGive Unsurprisingly, no, there wasn't anything she could have done. She was cycling legally and safely and got run over from behind by a lorry. If there had been something she could do, I expect she'd have done it.

@FelceJames @cycloxoxford @BigGive ANPR is the Council being unwilling to address the purpose of the roads. To enable people to get around. It sees the public as people to punish and restrict not facilitate. Drivers do not want to have collisions. I suspect many political cyclists enjoy their discomfort.

@MarkSharon_DP @cycloxoxford @BigGive I don't believe I advocated any particular measures at the Plain, I just want it to be safer. What that looks is to be debated. But if people come along and say "ah well it's fine because it was just due to the driver" then it's misinformed at best and misleading at worst.

@FelceJames @cycloxoxford @BigGive Many problems stem from making the roads too complicated, bloated with signage that confused and distracts, and narrowed by infrastructure. It should not be a sporting challenge to drive safely or legally. ANPR at this junction is not a solution. It is is an admission of failure

@MarkSharon_DP @cycloxoxford @BigGive Completely agree that unfit drivers shouldn't be on the road, but pinning all the responsibility of this case on this one factor is misleading and doesn't allow a holistic assessment of what caused it.

@FelceJames @cycloxoxford @BigGive The unfit driver should not be on the road to share space. All road users are 'vulnerable' around such people. Policy discussions have to be based on a proportional holistic approach to risk and take account of the impact on the many and not leap straight to a clichéd response.

@cycloxoxford @BigGive It would make no difference in this case if you had all the safety measures in place.

@MarkSharon_DP @cycloxoxford @BigGive Well I feel the fact that an unfit driver had to share space with a vulnerable road user due to poor infrastructure design is somewhat relevant to policy discussions.

@cycloxoxford @BigGive Rather than hear his words let's hear about what happened and why. It was an unlicensed, uninsured and drugged lorry driver. Hardly the profile of most drivers. It is dangerous for policy to be driven by grieving relatives using the 'sacred vow' paradigm to suppress discussion.

@YewneekPhoto I don't believe I said drugs played no part. I said that the road design, wherein an otherwise legal manoeuvre by an HGV performed at the wrong time by an unfit driver, was a key factor. As I understand it, that was your original complaint.
