Blockx is coming off his best week at this level in Monte Carlo, where he made it through qualifying and picked up some high-profile wins (albeit against a few erratic opponents) en route to the R16, so it’s no surprise he’s getting a lot of public support here. However, this feels like a classic case of recency bias. One strong week on clay isn’t enough for me to justify him being favored, even slightly. On top of that, he played five matches last week and is still developing at this level, so some kind of dip wouldn’t be surprising. Overall, the value for me lies with the more proven German on this surface.
