i know i came in hot, but i think the record player discourse is taking away from some of the actual issues we're seeing. the record player, while yes slightly overpriced, it's not unreasonable and makes sense given the difference of materials, the branding, the exclusivity, and the tariffs. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD BUY IT. ESP IF IT'S OUT OF YOUR PRICE RANGE. there are many other record players at a lower price point.
the stuff i have a harder time understanding is why vinyl coasters cost almost as much as a functional vinyl album, why completing a set is left to random chance (and unlikely), why we still can't bundle purchases and avoid multiple shipping charges, why shipping fees (not tariffs) are still so high in 2026 when other sites offer free or set shipping at a certain cart size, why ads-free viewing and translations aren't included in our paid membership, and why we're paying premium prices to essentially rent concert content for a one, maybe two, time viewing.
idk, maybe just me but when criticism is informed and focused on actual consumer issues, it's a lot harder to ignore.
