🍄 Hundreds of Mario fans descended on Union Square Tuesday—Mario Day, or MAR10 Day—to try to break the records for “most Marios” in one place.
GameStop put the call out to fans in hopes of breaking the record of 230 people.
The fans in Mario costumes represented boroughs across the city, and generations—from young kids to the OG Mario players from the 1980s.
Guinness hasn’t yet confirmed if Tuesday’s gathering was a record-breaking event. Its website notes that the record for “largest gathering of people dressed as Mario” was set in Chifeng City, China, in 2010.
