Women today are told to "lean in," optimize harder, and treat exhaustion like a personal defect instead of the structural crisis it actually is. My friend Corinne Low (@femonomics) drags the receipts to the table in her fantastic new book, "Having It All." amazon.com/Having-All-Tel… She brings together decades of data on happiness, time use, earnings, fertility, and relationships that highlight a "rigged game"—and no amount of 5 a.m. miracles or productivity hacks is going to un-rig it. But this isn't another diagnosis-and-doom book. Corinne hands you the escape map. What if you treated marriage like the most important business deal of your life? Started valuing your unpaid hours in cold, hard dollars? Quietly stopped chasing everyone else's definition of "having it all"? The numbers reveal a third path—usually ignored, often mocked—that consistently produces the happiest women, the strongest partnerships, and (surprise) the most financial security over a lifetime. With razor-sharp wit and zero guilt trips, Corinne dismantles the motherhood penalty, the pay gap, the invisible labor trap, and the lie that you can out-hustle a broken system. This is an economist's playbook for reclaiming your time, your energy, and your joy—on your own terms. If you're tired of failing at a game you never agreed to play, this book is your permission slip and your new rulebook. BONUS BOOK GIVEAWAY: Type "giveaway" in the comments and Corinne will send one signed book to the winner!

Her middle name is 天使 Tianxi, angel. But my wife and I chose it bc the characters mean Heaven + Send, & she's our gift from the universe--the dream baby neither of us thought we would get. Gonna do a newsletter soon on egg/embryo freezing & the graph I wish I'd seen earlier!

This little angel got here just in time for Mother's Day. My path as a mom started a long time ago, when I became a step-mom. Then came K. Then an 8 year journey filled with twists and turns, and now, baby H, after starting the process to freeze embryos two years ago.

The book starts with me pumping in an Amtrak bathroom: commuting 2 hours, the primary breadwinner & caretaker, juggling it all but feeling on top of nothing. How did I get there? How did WE get there? It unpacks the history of what happened and science of what we can do about it.

My friend and brilliant scientist Emily Falk has written a wonderful book for the current moment--about the alignment, or sometimes lack of, between what we value and the choices we make, and how neuroscience can help us understand the gap. Grab your copy! bookshop.org/p/books/what-w…

@SecRubio Please see this letter signed by over 100 economists, including 3 Nobel prize winners, encouraging the immediate release of PEPFAR funds and continuation of these life-saving programs! x.com/femonomics/sta…

I am hearing that PEPFAR programs are still being stalled, and medication appointments cancelled, despite a waiver in place to allow life-saving programs to continue. Thus, @belindaarch and I are sharing the letter we wrote, signed by 110 economists, urging its continuation. 1/4

PEPFAR is the epitome of soft power. It is a Republican initiative, it is pro-life, pro-America and the most popular U.S. program in Africa. There’s even a waiver acknowledging this, yet I’m told that drugs are still being withheld at clinics in Africa. This must be reversed immediately!!

PLEASE share the letter widely. Send to journalists, congress, the administration. If you have any contacts on Marco Rubio's team, please share. If you are an economist, in any discipline, and would like to add your name, you can do so here. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI… 4/4

This is not a left/right issue--PEPFAR was started by George W. Bush, and R Sen Bill Cassidy is calling for funds to be released: x.com/senbillcassidy… Medication withheld IS lives lost. People's viral loads will rebound, be transmissible, + may become unresponsive to ARTs. 3/4

Finally, Ande tests a mechanism specific to developing, multilingual nations: could the default to English as lingua franca be creating frictions in job seekers getting detailed info from postings? She finds offering a Hindi option boosts real job seeker applications tremendously

Hey #econtwitter! Dropping back over to tell you about a great Wharton job candidate! Xian Ng studies whether households are able to optimize over financial products with different up-front versus sustained payments. This area often has a tradeoff b/t identification and stakes 🧵
