PEPFAR is the epitome of soft power. It is a Republican initiative, it is pro-life, pro-America and the most popular U.S. program in Africa. There’s even a waiver acknowledging this, yet I’m told that drugs are still being withheld at clinics in Africa. This must be reversed immediately!!

This is not a left/right issue--PEPFAR was started by George W. Bush, and R Sen Bill Cassidy is calling for funds to be released: x.com/senbillcassidy… Medication withheld IS lives lost. People's viral loads will rebound, be transmissible, + may become unresponsive to ARTs. 3/4

I am hearing that PEPFAR programs are still being stalled, and medication appointments cancelled, despite a waiver in place to allow life-saving programs to continue. Thus, @belindaarch and I are sharing the letter we wrote, signed by 110 economists, urging its continuation. 1/4

Finally, Ande tests a mechanism specific to developing, multilingual nations: could the default to English as lingua franca be creating frictions in job seekers getting detailed info from postings? She finds offering a Hindi option boosts real job seeker applications tremendously

Ande then checks to see if firms simply don't know that workers value these things, finding clear info about how much workers value amenities leads recruiters to change their listing behavior, displaying her superhuman ability to get partners to see the value in experimentation!
