@SymplyTonbra No, ATLA was deeply thought out before it even started getting made. They knew they were going to stop at 3 seasons/books no matter how popular it got. Korra was just a ham-fisted cashgrab sequel, like "quick, we gotta find a way to make more money off Avatar. Make some shit up."

@Elywisteria I forgot by who but there's a YT video about the genetics of bending and how bending (or non-bending) is a recessive gene in the Avatar universe. So basically "all" the original lion-turtle expats had bending but it became a crapshoot over generations.
