The reason that people can be so cruel on social media is because it's a place for addicts. It's a place people go to run away from uncomfortable feelings they carry in their bodies. We pull up social media to distract ourselves from ourselves. When we run away from our feelings, we tend to project them more onto others. Therefore, social media can become an endless toxic feedback loop in which many people are looking for someone to offload the emotions they are avoiding feeling onto. This is why one of the most radical things you can do in this dopamine-addicted and distracted world is to run directly towards the feelings that scare you the most, rather than spending your life distracting yourself from them. Once you do, you will learn how quickly those feelings dissipate, and that the feelings you spent months, maybe even years, scrolling to distract yourself from were actually not so scary after all.
