Earthset. The Artemis II crew captured this view of an Earthset on April 6, 2026, as they flew around the Moon. The image is reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise image taken by astronaut Bill Anders 58 years earlier as the Apollo 8 crew flew around the Moon.

When was the vote taken to secularise schooling? To remove the Christian orientation and underpinning of our non-denominational schools? When was the vote taken to adopt an aggressive secularism? An atheistic humanism? It is a huge cultural change - was it agreed upon?

@CptHastings1916 The NUM was even against the mining because the Fitzwilliam family were seen as better employers than the state and threatened to go on strike over damage to the house.

@JesuitArchives That's very sad about the school, but excellent news that the records are safe.

Between 1900 and 1970, around 2000 country houses were lost - for a bunch of reasons, but death taxes was right up there. Just an unimaginable loss of heritage. Here, Crofton Hall just outside Carlisle, home to the Brisco family for 500yrs, demolished 1955

You get all these people who post memes about depressing brutalist and modern architecture as opposed to random classical cathedrals, but then they go and say mid and NPC and maxxed and mogged and retard and all this endlessly hideous vernacular, doesn’t it drain the soul too?

@CptHastings1916 I'm reminded that the atmospheric epilogue of this symphony was one of Archbishop Bernard Longley's choices on Private Passions some years ago — so it comes with archi-episcopal approval!

Any recommendations for symphonies I might enjoy? Am trying to broaden my music listening a bit. I like Wagner, Mahler, and Vaughan Williams, to give an idea of my taste.

Throughout the centuries, the Gospel has permeated the structures, standards, and ways of acting and thinking of the civilizations it has entered. It has done so not through violent revolution, but through peaceful transformation from within—through consciences and the conversion of hearts.

Dreamt last night that I'd committed a murder and was being investigated by Columbo. Obviously nerve-racking but it was great to see the maestro at work.

I'm so pleased to have translated the Anglo-Saxon poem 'The Panther' for this wonderful new setting by Nico Muhly - premiered today in Exeter itself, home of the Exeter Book!
Exeter Cathedral@ExeterCathedral

Today's Choral Evensong service will be broadcast live at 3pm on @BBCRadio3. During the service, Exeter Cathedral Choir will be performing the premiere of an anthem specially commissioned for the conference from composer Nico Muhly. It is a setting of a poem “The Panther” from the Exeter Book, translated by Dr Parker specifically for this composition. Listen live on @BBCSounds: bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00… #ExeterCathedral #YourCathedral
