IMPORTANT WARNING: Ford's new insurance rules in Ontario, will mean you will give away your benefits, for little benefit. It's structured as an "affordability measure", where you can remove some benefits, to save a nearly immaterial amount. The worst part is, it shifts the burden to taxpayers! For example, let's say you opt-out of the income replacement benefit. You get into a major accident. You cannot return to work. You then have to go on EI or CPP instead of insurance companies paying you. And if you qualify, you will get it, until it runs out. And when it does & you can no longer afford rent & other expenses, that's when things get worse. It will be an epic disaster. And keep in mind, the Landlord Tenant Board in Ontario, is already the biggest disaster in Canada. It's underfunded. Nearly a year to have your case heard, while tenants who ask you cash-for-keys take advantage of a failed system. These disgusting rules place the onus on hardworking Canadians who work multiple jobs to be landlords in the hope their many many years of hard work allow them to retire in peace. But they risk losing their home because of 1 bad actor. That's all it takes. And I'm telling you, I know this issue has been raised to many in the Ford administration. I know lawyers have talked to them about it. In their own words (lawyer): "They don't care". Please be careful my friends. Removing key benefits for very very little benefit isn't the solution.
