I hope the ending song of the anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man part 2 is "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong

My opinion on the Ending of Chainsawman as a fan and reader since years. To me it's a "happy ending" that lacks weight, no real taste, no lasting substance. Not just because it was rushed (though it was) but because of what it ultimately says (or doesn't say). A thread:

One of the things I've noticed about people who say this is that you can tell they haven't been chanced to read an actual story that tells strong themes with excellent narrative direction. Because once you experience that, you start understanding how both merge and coexist

“themes and such” being like an insult is weird to me because… i feel like. delivering your themes and message properly in a story is more important than like. having a perfectly consistent world forever. a story is meant to make you feel something, not just be wiki fodder

its a criticsm of valuing themes over good storytelling but my problem is why do yall act like the two are mutually exclusive ever since csm ended ppl act like u can either have a story thats thematically good or narritevely good, cant havd both apparently

Unique irritation I have with CSM's ending is I honestly like these "escaping the narrative" concluding notes, CSM just never really gives Denji the autonomy to facilitate it and people handwave it as "addict tendencies" It's made me appreciate Sonny Boy more, at least

Whats funny about "themes and such" as an insult is that it's not actually criticizing series for having themes (and such) but moreso the way those themes are presented so poorly yet get defended by hardcore fans for existing in the first place when that was never the complaint.

#csm232 nayuta has me so overjoyed. i think this is a perfect ending for the control devil. she’s in a similar position to makima, yet she’s capable of forming bonds and expressing herself in a way makima wasn’t, because of the life denji gave her in the previous world.

I refuse to think part 2 as a whole is bad, but, If I personally had to point out a moment when I think the story started to get weird in a bad way, i would say after the Aging Devil arc.

OK QUICK CSM PART 2 CLIMAX/ENDING REWRITE BECAUSE THE HYPERFIXATION IS WINNING TODAY. My only real gripe is that Denji & Asa needed more agency in the reset. Make it a sacrifice and moment of growth. So how do we have that happen? After Asa & Denji’s mind convo, Denji-Man happens, but this time, Yoru DOES manage to weaponize Denji. …only for the actual Denji to sneak attack from behind and reveal he did the “grow another CSM from a piece of his heart” gimmick. (Which he only thought about because when thinkin of ways to beat Yoru, he remembered the aquarium and Asa’s starfish facts.) Asa regains control of her body. Why? Because she’s terrified of what she has to do next. Flashback to the mindscape. It turns out Asa and Denji devised a plan to weaponize apart of CSM so that Asa could use the weapon to kill Denji, erasing CSM from existence. That maybe dying will release all of the scary stuff Pochita ate, but if Asa keeps the chainsaw, they should be good. Denji realized that people will never stop breaking his dreams because they’re trying to use Pochita. But if he can’t hold onto any dreams, he can’t honor Pochita’s contract. Is that fair to him? He also remembers that he told Pochita to possess him, but Pochita became his heart instead. That there must’ve been a reason Pochita stopped being CSM. Denji points out that getting rid of CSM is their best bet to get rid of Yoru; if she has no beef with CSM, she has no need to keep Asa hostage. He makes an assertion that while Yoru can make his dream of having sex come true, putting his dreams before other people only screws everyone over. That right now, his dream is just to save someone… after all they’re superheroes, right? Cut to present. Panels alternate between the apocalypse (bugs, nukes, chainzombies) and Asa forcing herself to march towards Denji, chainsaw in hand. Devils start to hone in on the scene. Yoru is begging Asa to stop. She wanted to own CSM, not erase him. She needs her mortal enemy, someone to fight. She dedicated so much to defeating him but if he doesn’t exist at all, what’s her purpose?! The fear of the unknown consumes them both. Asa begins to break. She can’t bear the thought of killing someone directly, remembering what she did to Yuko. But Denji assures her that this is how she can save him, that he’s always been living on borrowed time. Gives his own spin on “what you think are sins are nothing to devils” The bug devils descend. Hordes of Chainzombies start pouring in. Asa argues the world needs CSM, but Denji asserts that he’s seen how he’s seen things get done without him. Deforming from hybrid to human, Denji talks about how he held onto CSM because he wanted people to like him. But then he met Asa & Yoru. They hate CSM, but like Denji. They like him for him. He realized that in itself is his biggest dream come true. So he’s content. And hey, if heaven’s real, maybe he’ll see his buddies again. Overwhelmed, Asa closes her eyes and raises the chainsaw to slice Denji. Denji looks at the crowd of devils behind her, noticing one devil that’s not really there. Pochita…who flashes the peace sign one last time. Denji smirks and shoots one back at Pochita, portrayed in a way where it looks like he’s saying goodbye to Asa. Asa goes in for the kill…but trips. Thankfully, this allowed her to dodge a projectile from one of the devils. However, instead of completely falling to the ground, Asa regains her balance, swings her arms up and in a page echoing Denji slicing Makima, Asa slices Denji in the chest. The Fire Devil is shown watching from a distance, stupefied. Between two choices, Denji found a third option yet again. We have a spread of panels alternating between the world rumbling and the moments Asa & Denji bonded as Asa catches a slain Denji in her arms. Then…nothing but darkness for a page or two. Then we flip to the double spread of the old shack. Then Ch. 232 plays out p much the same lol, the end! I’m done!
