The U.S. dragged the region into a conflict that hit their infrastructure, spooked their markets, and closed the strait their economies depend on. China brokered the Iran-Saudi rapprochement in 2023. Now this. The Gulf isn't abandoning Washington, but the days of defaulting to the U.S. as the only power worth courting in the region are over. Iran is closer to China than ever, Gulf states are recalibrating, and Beijing walked away from this war with more influence in the Middle East than it has ever had, without firing a single shot.
