1 Cor 3 is talking about the Judgment Day when our works get tested by fire. some burn up, we lose reward, but we’re still saved. Catholics have long seen this (plus Mt 5:26 & Rev 21:27) pointing to purification after death for those going to heaven. Early Christians prayed for the dead too. ‘It is finished’ paid for our sins; the cleaning up of our souls is His mercy continuing. Scripture + Tradition fit together. Worth checking the Church Fathers.

(1 Cor 3:11-15 NIV) For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. {12} If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, {13} his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. {14} If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. {15} If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
That has nothing to do with purgatory. It's clearly talking about your works.

@realtakes_1 @Drew1587 @bakonut @TotalProSports @DetroitLionsPro You're a Chargers fan.. Tf do you know about rings? 🤡 whole franchise of fucking losers 😂
English

@FidesInvictus @Drew1587 @bakonut @TotalProSports @DetroitLionsPro "contending" but not winning rings shut the fuck up
English

@Drew1587 @bakonut @TotalProSports @DetroitLionsPro Because of his constant winning. I'm a Cowboys fan so we've been on the receiving end of a lot of his great seasons. But yes, without a doubt having the best player on the planet has helped push him into the GOAT conversation.
English

@Drew1587 @bakonut @TotalProSports @DetroitLionsPro Reid had the Eagles contending constantly though. Honestly might be the best coach of all time.
English

@bakonut @TotalProSports @DetroitLionsPro John. Please.
We both know who Andy Reid is without Mahomes.

"It is finished” (tetelestai) declares the atonement complete, no argument there. But Scripture also shows purification after death: 1 Cor 3:11-15 (saved, yet “as through fire”), Mt 5:26 (pay the last penny), and Rev 21:27 (nothing unclean enters). The early Church universally prayed for the dead (e.g., Tertullian, Augustine). Purgatory isn’t a “second cross”, it’s the merciful finishing of sanctification Christ began. Worth wrestling with the full tradition.
English

@Xtopher_Uzo It's not in the Bible.
On the cross Jesus said, "It is finished." He used an accounting term that means, "Paid in full".
Purgatory is a blasphemous concept that claims that Jesus' suffering on the cross wasn't enough to pay for your sins.
English

The coal in Isaiah was for purifying his lips right there on earth for his job as a prophet, not some preview of heaven after death.
Purgatory is just God finishing the sanctification for folks who die in His grace but still have some sin clinging to them. Like refining gold in fire (1 Cor 3:13-15). Jesus paid the full price, Purgatory’s the final cleanup so we can actually enjoy Him without anything holding us back.
It’s mercy, not extra homework.
English

@Xtopher_Uzo So in Isaiah, God purified the prophets lips instantly. Why can’t he purify believers instantly like that as soon as they get to heaven? Why must they go to purgatory for that?
English

The Bible doesn’t flat-out say “Mary never sinned” in those exact words. Protestants often stick to “only what’s explicitly in Scripture,” but Catholics also draw from how the early Church understood things, plus hints in the Bible.
Key point: “Immaculate Conception” doesn’t mean Mary was a virgin (that’s the Virgin Birth of Jesus). It means God gave her a special grace at the moment she was conceived, so she was protected from original sin, the fallen nature we all inherit from Adam and Eve. This was done through Jesus’ future sacrifice, like a preemptive gift.
Catholics see support in:
• Luke 1:28 where the angel calls her “full of grace” (a unique way of speaking).
• Mary as the “new Eve” who says yes to God where Eve said no.
• The idea that the vessel carrying God incarnate would be holy and pure.
It’s not a contradiction, it’s what we call “development of doctrine”: the Church grows in understanding over time, like a seed becoming a tree. The early Christians believed it long before it was formally defined in 1854.
Does that make more sense? Happy to clarify anything!
English

@FidesInvictus @OLEJU @manandhismovies @oliverburdick I can't find anywhere in the Bible that Mary was sinless. Of course there are multiple references to Jesus being sinless and was never described as immaculate. Immaculate conception simply means she was a virgin...clean or immaculate from the sexual act required to bear a child.
English

@Sola_Crusader @Catholic_bro Are you really saying Mary the mother of Christ is a demon? Or what is your point here?
