Mickey Lolich made his last public appearance at Comerica Park in 2023. He was in a wheelchair. When he left, he insisted on standing up to say goodbye. Willie Horton & Mickey Stanley helped lift him up and he waved goodbye. I snapped this photo feeling the gravity of the moment.

Appreciation post for Jim Schmakel, longtime Tigers Clubhouse Manager, who announced his retirement. Jim started with the Tigers in 1978, but began his baseball career a decade earlier. Here he is (bottom row, far left) as a batboy in the 1966 Toledo Mud Hens team photo.

We are saddened by the passing of former Tigers outfielder Charlie Maxwell and share our condolences with his family and loved ones.   A native of Paw Paw, Michigan, Maxwell played 8 seasons in Detroit, was a two-time All-Star and at 97 years old, was our oldest living alum.

The Dusty May Era begins for @umichbball on October 20 at Little Caesars Arena when the Wolverines take on @OaklandMBB in an exhibition game to benefit @ForgottnHarvest. But first, @CoachDustyMay is our guest at Comerica Park for today’s first pitch.

HUGE THANK YOU to the @tigers organization (Jordan and his amazing team!) for taking care of us this past weekend as we celebrated my husband and his teammates 40th anniversary of their 1984 World Series win! We had such a fantastic time and made new memories with old friends!!!

In fact, just a few years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting @bacari34 through a mutual friend and hosting him for a 1st pitch at our annual University of Detroit Mercy Night at Comerica Park! #DetroitsCollegeTeam

I'm happy for these kids. Truly. But where was all this type of stuff when @RP3natural, @bacari34, et al., beat UCLA, then St. John's the following year? No first pitches, etc. Different time? Public school in Rochester vs a little private school in the city?

As a kid going to tiger stadium I dreamed of my jersey hanging in the dugout. Some 60 years later thanks to 15 young men that could really play a different game than baseball.
