Sextortion is a form of online blackmail. It happens when someone threatens to share intimate photos, videos, or messages unless the victim sends money or more images. Often, the offender uses a fake profile to build trust before asking the victim to share something private. Once they have it, they threaten to send it to friends, family, or followers unless their demands are met. If you are targeted by sextortion: - Do not panic and do not pay -stop communication and block the offender -save evidence such as messages and screenshots - secure your social media accounts and privacy settings Remember: You are not alone, and help is available. These crimes rely on fear, shame, and urgency to pressure victims into acting quickly. If you have information about sextortion or other criminal activity, you can report it anonymously through BC Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip online at bccrimestoppers.com If you have information about sextortion or other criminal activity, you can report it anonymously through BC Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or submitting a tip online at

Whether it’s a message claiming to be from a friend, a business, or someone asking for an urgent e-transfer, take a moment to pause and verify the request before sending money. January marks Crime Stoppers Month 2026, a time to highlight the vital role Crime Stoppers programs play in helping law enforcement prevent and solve crime across Canada. Crime Stoppers’ ongoing national slogan, “Say It Here,” underscores the importance of providing anonymous tip information that can assist police in identifying perpetrators of crime. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) is joining partners across the country to emphasize how crucial tip reporting is in the fight against fraud. Fraud networks are often sophisticated and far-reaching. While some operate internationally, many criminal groups have strong ties within Canada, recruiting local facilitators and using Canadian infrastructure such as phone numbers, bank accounts, and addresses to carry out their schemes.
