@HKallioGoblin @perrikaryal Thank you! It’s encouraging to see so many different approaches being developed. My biggest goal is independent communication.

@Filemon1293 There are also non-invasive versions like @perrikaryal has been using for three years. It works fine for telepathic gaming, and many other things.

People sometimes ask me why I want a brain-computer interface so much. It’s not because I love technology. It’s because I want to tell my own stories, share my own thoughts, and communicate more independently. Right now, my parents help me express what’s in my mind, and I’m grateful for them. But I dream of the day when I can do more of it on my own. For me, that kind of independence would change my life. @neuralink @axionlabsinc #CommunicationMatters #BrainComputerInterface #CerebralPalsy #Accessibility #AssistiveTechnology #Independence

People see my posts on X, but they don’t see what it takes to create them. Living with cerebral palsy, typing and writing is slow because of my spasticity. Even with technology and support, writing a post can still be difficult. Without help from my parents or AI, some posts could take me all day to finish. That doesn’t mean the thoughts aren’t mine. Every post starts with my ideas, my feelings, and my experiences. I just need help turning them into words that others can easily understand. That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about brain-computer interfaces and communication technology. I’m not looking for shortcuts—I’m looking for independence. My dream is to be able to share my thoughts with the world more easily, in my own voice. To everyone working on brain-computer interfaces and assistive communication technology: thank you for what you’re building. Your work gives people like me hope. #BrainComputerInterface #Neuralink #BCI #CommunicationMatters #AssistiveTechnology #Accessibility #CerebralPalsy

Today’s therapy was another step in my communication journey. We worked on my breathing, my spine, my arm, my left leg, and practiced the B sound again. My doctor also gave me a new tongue exercise. He wants me to practice sticking my tongue out as far as I can, so we might put a little Nutella on a plate and have me lift it with my tongue to help strengthen and improve its movement. It sounds funny, but I’m willing to try anything that might help me communicate more clearly. And of course… we practiced spitballs. 😂 I’m getting pretty good! I can shoot them almost halfway across the room now. Every small step keeps me moving toward my goal of communicating more clearly and becoming more independent. #CommunicationMatters #CerebralPalsy #Accessibility #Neurorehabilitation #SpeechTherapy #Independence #KeepGoing

If a safe brain-computer interface became available tomorrow... Would you try it? Yes or No?

I’ve been working with a functional neurologist for a while now, and my parents have started noticing some encouraging changes. My hands are no longer clenched into fists all the time, and my right hand doesn’t twist like it used to. The spasms and cramps in my arms have also gotten better. My parents also say I’m starting to pronounce my words and sounds more clearly. My dad has even started encouraging me to speak in full sentences instead of just one word. For example, instead of saying “outside,” he has me say, “I want to go outside.” These may seem like small steps, but to me they’re huge. Every improvement gives me more hope that I can communicate more clearly and become more independent. #CommunicationMatters #CerebralPalsy #Accessibility #Neurorehabilitation #Independence #KeepGoing

I’m incredibly happy to see the progress brain-computer interfaces are making for people with ALS. Every breakthrough gives hope to millions of people. At the same time, I hope future research includes people with other disabilities too. People living with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, stroke, muscular dystrophy, and many other conditions also face huge communication challenges. Communication is a basic human need. Brain-computer interfaces have the potential to give so many of us a voice and greater independence. I hope the future of BCI research is a future where no disability is left behind. #BrainComputerInterface #BCI #Neurotechnology #AssistiveTechnology #Accessibility #Communication #CerebralPalsy #ALS #DisabilityInclusion

I’m encouraged by the incredible progress brain-computer interfaces are making for people with ALS. Every breakthrough gives me hope. As someone living with cerebral palsy, I also hope future BCI studies continue expanding to include people with other disabilities who struggle to communicate. Communication shouldn’t depend on what diagnosis you have. Brain-computer interfaces could give millions of people a greater voice, more independence, and new opportunities. I hope the future of BCI research includes everyone. @Neuralink and @axionlabsinc #BrainComputerInterface #BCI #CerebralPalsy #Accessibility #AssistiveTechnology #Communication

Yesterday was a really bad day for me emotionally. My depression hit me hard, and I felt trapped inside my body. Today, I’m doing okay so far. But I want people to understand why communication technology means so much to me. I have cerebral palsy. I can say some words, but most people outside my family have a hard time understanding me. I have thoughts, feelings, ideas, dreams, and things I want to say—but getting those words out to the world is one of the hardest parts of my life. That is why I follow brain-computer interfaces and new communication technology so closely. To me, this technology is not just something cool or futuristic. It could mean independence. It could mean having conversations with people who cannot understand my speech. It could mean expressing exactly what I am thinking without needing my family to help people understand me. It could mean finally having a voice the world can hear. I am ready for this technology. I want to be part of the future of communication—not someday far away, but as soon as it becomes possible. I hope the people building this technology, and the people who tell stories that matter, will see mine. @Neuralink @axionlabsinc @FOX5Vegas #BrainComputerInterface #BCI #AssistiveTechnology #CerebralPalsy #CommunicationMatters #Accessibility #DisabilityTech

Today’s therapy was another step in my communication journey. My doctor worked on my breathing and adjusted my neck, which felt really good. He used vibration and small electrical stimulation on my tongue, then had me practice saying the letters A, B, C, and D. He also put yellow kinesiology tape on my right arm to help with movement and used an activator instrument on the back of my neck, shoulders, and chest. It may look like a lot of different exercises, but they all connect to one goal that means everything to me: improving my communication and gaining more independence. I have a lot to say, and I’m going to keep working to get my words out. #CommunicationMatters #CerebralPalsy #Rehabilitation #Accessibility #Independence #KeepGoing

Ivan had a spinal cord injury three years ago that left him quadriplegic. Last week, he ordered dinner from his favorite restaurant by himself. This level of control used to need brain surgery. Not anymore. Introducing Click by @axionlabsinc.

My therapy team just crowned me the “Spit Wad King!” 😂 👑 It made me laugh, but it also reminded me that progress can come with a sense of humor. Every exercise, every sound, and every little victory is another step forward in my communication journey. I’ve even noticed I get a little better when I shoot spit balls with a straw! I’m grateful for a therapy team that works hard and knows how to celebrate the little wins. #CommunicationMatters #CerebralPalsy #Rehabilitation #Accessibility #KeepGoing

Hi @FOX5Vegas, @elonmusk, and @axionlabsinc, My name is Roman, and I’m from Las Vegas. I live with cerebral palsy, and communication is the biggest challenge in my life. I’ve been working hard in therapy while following the incredible progress in brain-computer interface technology. I dream of the day I can communicate independently with the world. I’ve had the privilege of meeting the Axion team, and their work has given me so much hope for the future. I’d love the opportunity for Las Vegas to hear my story. I hope it shows how technology, determination, and hope can change lives—not just mine, but for so many others living with disabilities.

The dura is the brain's armor: a membrane so tough that a surgeon normally cuts through it with a scalpel. For the first time in our clinical trials, we inserted the electrode threads of our implant straight through the dura and into the cortex, keeping the dura intact. Here's how we did it 🧵
