@Filmlore @HarjapBhangal @RupertLowe10 Okay so it still isn’t the de-facto language neither is it the majority language. It is funny how you have claimed my comments are easy to debunk but you have confirmed them whilst trying. Lmao

All station names should be in English, and English only. This is England. We speak English. Don't like it? Leave.

@sn0wt1ger @HarjapBhangal @RupertLowe10 English speaking percentage of Southall - 44.9% Punjabi speaking percentage of Southall - 22% The sign reflects the significant historical, cultural and contemporary ties between the Punjabi speaking diaspora and the local area. Very easy to comprehend.

@Filmlore @HarjapBhangal @RupertLowe10 And 40% is not a majority by any stretch of the imagination. That 40% is not Punjabi alone, it includes other Asian ethnicities but I’m sure if you gave more of a shit than I do about it you could find an actual breakdown

@sn0wt1ger @HarjapBhangal @RupertLowe10 Your assumption is that English “evolved” to become de-facto, when even a basic knowledge of history informs otherwise. And by your interpretation of the concept of linguistic evolution, Punjabi is also “evolving” to become the de-facto language of Southall.

@Filmlore @HarjapBhangal @RupertLowe10 It’d be the de-facto language if the overwhelming majority spoke it. Seeing as 40% of Southall is Asian (that being a mix of Punjabi, other Indians, Pakistanis and anyone else categorised as Asian), white being 35.9% and black being 10% - it is definitely not de-facto. Refuted.

@HarjapBhangal @RupertLowe10 If you want to live in a country it is probably a good thing to learn their language so you can properly integrate, is it not? And before you go on about foreign countries having English signage, that is just because it evolved to be the de-facto language for international comms

@RupertLowe10 I know how you feel mate. Look at this railway sign in India. It’s almost like loads of foreigners descended upon the country with complete disregard for the culture and language.

@Suffragent_ 2026? Here’s a cute photo of the sign that was put up in the 1990s before the current Elizabeth Line revamp. Let me know if you need any help reading what it says, I’m a native of the country.
