💬We are in #NewYork, taking part in the civil society coordination meeting ahead of the fourth negotiation session of the #UNTaxConvention. This is a key space to build common ground in preparation for the upcoming negotiations. 🤝Together with @justiciafiscal and organizations from different regions, we contribute to bringing the perspectives and priorities of the Global South into the process and support the advancement of an ambitious and inclusive Convention.

🌎The Fourth Session of Negotiations for the #UNTaxConvention has started in New York. This is a historic process with the potential to reshape global tax rules. 📝This morning, the session opened with a debate on the text draft of Article 4 regarding Sustainable Development. 👉Latindadd is participating, alongside @justiciafiscal, as part of the civil society representation for Latin America and the Caribbean.

6/ Climate talks lack money and commitment to transparency language, but COP31 could be a turning point. The financing gap ($1.3 trillion) needs to link to UNTC as ambition, and transparency gap (language on public BO/asset registries) links to deforestation and other env crimes.

5/ UN Tax Convention negotiations are a huge opportunity as Global North states lack commitment the process and favour the now failed OECD side-by-side deal instead. UNTC could see public access to BO and endorse public access to asset registries and CBCR - an uphill struggle.

Day 3 of the 13th Pan African Conference on Illicit Financial Flows and Taxation. @FinTrCo and @SEATINIUGANDA co-hosted a side session on: Unlocking Africa’s Wealth: Extractives, Illicit Financial Flows, and Domestic Resource Mobilisation The session explored the challenges facing Africa’s mining sector and its impact on communities, the effects of illicit financial flows on women, and feminist perspectives on extractives and economic models. The participants aimed to find common ground and actionable steps to improve the situation across African countries.
